I would like to know what kinds of things you would like to see or be able to do here at Bjorn3D.
To let you know what I am wanting to do is the following.
1. Grow the forums, contest will contiunue for a while to be a low post count draw out of the hat type deal. This should bring more new members.
2. Expand our game reviews, Shannon and Bjorn are going to be working on this doing more console and PC game reviews.
3. Try to pickup a couple of more companies to have tech support like we have with XFX and Mushkin.
4. Try to find a couple of folks to really push the Folding at Home team more.
Please give us your input so we can evaluate your ideas and see if they could be implemented into the site.
Thank you for your time.

Don't expand to fast, so many times I have seen a nice group like this expand really fast and it goes to hell. Look a RuneScape or something.
1. I would make the post minimum 25.
2. If you expand your reviews you will expand your user base and get more people.
3. Pick up more companies, but make sure they are good people like XFX and Mushkin are. We don't need some crap company with crap support.
4. If you get to #1 you would be the greatest.
PS. If you want to do a review on Runescape I am your guy. I am retired but have a level 118 account an a phat. -_-
1) I agree with Miker on the minimum post count. Not to sound like a jerk or anything, but I'm kind of happy you dropped the F@H requirements for the contests. They were just too much to qualify.
2) I totally agree with this. But you know, I want to suggest moving out to doing video reviews. They are MUCH more entertaining. People would rather sit through a 5 minute video than read 20 pages about a video game. Trust me on that one lol. Plus, with youtube, it's basically one huge advertisement for the site. Just something to consider. :icon_tiphat:
3) I have a cousin that works for Intel. Don't know how that would help tech support wise, but he might be able to hook you guys up. Doesn't hurt to ask if you're interested. ;-)

I think we should start a couple B3d gaming clans up. Find out what games are currently being played the most by our readers and have a clan thread!!
P.S. I will PWN you in HL:deathmatch!!!

That's also a pretty good idea. We could have weekly all-day events (like on the weekends). Come to think of it, that would be pretty fun. A couple game ideas would be TF2, battlefield series, and CSS.

Well everyone loves free stuff no doubt but how to keep these people to stay in the forum in another issue.
I am for example in a couple of forums and like one more than the other but there is a couple of things that I would change in this forum.
Reviews are always a good thing!
Hands on topics are also good...just to throw in a couple of subjects.

Scott, if you start a manage a server I can help run a CSS Clan. I play CSS 6+ hours a day.

I don't use them much myself but a big draw would be Cheat codes and Easter Eggs for video games. Like the game review, reposted walk throughs, and cheat codes and glitches.
Then there's only one site I know of doing Visual Walk Throughs. That'd be time intensive though. But the walk throughs are great if you been lost in a game for a day or two.
And of course the number one draw, the future "Bjorn Babes" giving their dual hand gesture to the hardware being reviewed (like at the trade shows) while sporting tasteful one piece swimsuits (gimme a break Bikinis string type preferably). If they actually know some thing about hardware that would be a plus.

maybe have a F@H only contest or somthing of that sort.
Miker
02-27-2008, 08:06 PM
Have a smaller 25 post count, no F@H contest with a smaller prize, then a 100 post count and 25 work units F@H with a bigger prize.
I would love to see...
1. Me get a free PC.
2. No content link ads.

1) I agree with Miker on the minimum post count.
2) I want to suggest moving out to doing video reviews.
I agree on both counts absolutely.
25 posts is still a small requirement for a great prize, it doesn't drive people away but it means that one must make at least some minor effort to win.
Video reviews are great, i'm not lazy when it comes to reading reviews, but if i have a choice i choose video over text. Video reviews simply show more gameplay.
Oh, and I forgot to suggest one more thing. This will probably be a little harder to do, but I want to see more shows being covered. E3, CES, GDC, CeBIT, etc.
It's a tall, but worthy order. At least I think it's worth it. Maybe if you can get sponsers to cover travel expenses things would be much more feasible. Then you can merge my previous idea about doing video reviews and cover various shows that way.
Just another idea. :icon_tiphat:

I like the small and big prize that miker suggested but with some miner tweaks 50 posts to make spamming less of an issue but keep the 25 WU's for the folding.
Also a Bjorn clan is made of win i wold buy the game if i didn't own it.

I agree as well with the 25 post count for prizes. This way it gives the new members a good head start into interacting with people in the forums. 10 posts is not only easy but I don't think it is enough for the new members to really interact, give their 2 cents and see what we are all about. I like the folding requirement actually and in fact is what made me look into the whole subject. If it was not for your contest with the minimum Wu count I would not really have learned about it. In fact before entering the contest I did not even bother visiting that part of the forum because I did not know what it was or about. Heck even a 5 WU requirement is not only easy but it contributes to our team, gets new members to see what it is about and feel a part of the team. I think after all team spirit is a plus and I like the fact of seeing people like ZhengHe taking that kind of initiative.

Well can't really get rid of advertising can I? What would pay for the site to be up and pay webmaster fees.

I would really like to see more game reviews, not to diss the youtube idea AJ, but youtube is blocked at my school where I get my internet from, and I like reading reviews alot better.

Content link ads just take away so much from the site, they are annoying. It would be a real selling point of the site not to have them. It takes away all professionalism to have them. You are highlighting along reading then boom! Pop-up trying to sell me some random thing.

Hmm we have pop ups here? I have never noticed them mb its cause i have a blocker... anyways. I think we should do what most people already suggested and that is to have a contest for active folding members(and im not talking about how many someone can do because thats not fair but when i say active I mean people that fold on a regular basis and not just cause of the prizes).

I would encourage you to post a video review with all of your REVIEWS. If it is a past review, than make a video for it. A new review, than require your reviewers to post a video along with a written review. Video is the way to go if you want to capture the "youth market". Video is how young people communicate today.
The written word is just does not have the impactions a video can produce. I know it is more work, and your reviewers will have to take a shower:lol: and comb there hair first, but in the end it will GROW your site.

BJ3D doesn't contain any popups and if you are annoyed by the ads just ignore them.

Oh, those pop-ups; well they only show when you move your mouse over them so here an easy solution, don't move your mouse over them...
And even if you do move your mouse over them they only appear for a few secs.

I highlight when I read, and they always pop up, and you need to hit the x to close them.

Well they close automatically for me in FF when I move my mouse off of the link.
Anyhow this topic/issue is beside the main point of this thread.
