Ok, I've had this build running for over a year now recently the last month the computer was taking more and more turn on/off to get it to boot up, it would turn on, no beeps and everything would run except case fans and northbridge fan wouldnt spin however their led lights would light up and monitor would just sit at black screen.
Eventually the pc would boot and it would run normal and even restart normal, but after shutting down and leaving off for a while I had to go through the more multiple turn on/off which would increase each time to get it to boot again.
Now the pc is not booting up after spending over an hour turning it on/off trying to get it to boot up.
I've spent the last couple days trying to troubleshoot swapped out psu, vga, ram, hdd, but the computer is just doing the same thing so im guessing the fault is with my mobo or cpu. Hopefully someone might understand what might be causing this and be able to help me.

pc specs:
infinity 975x/g
e6600 c2d
evga 8800gtx
2gb crucial ballistix ddr2 800

sounds to me that it could be a PSU issue. You mentioned that you have swapped the PSU, what PSu are you using and did you swap to? It could also be your mobo as well. I think it could very well be the mobo and the easiest way maybe simply swap it with another board to test it out.

Take a look around your motherboard and see if any of the capacitors are bulging or leaking.

Yep,
Sounds like something is going wrong with the Mobo if it used to work, and you tested 2x PSUs.

Did you ever OC? Was it OCed?

This is what exactly happend to my first pc. It was custom built by my dads uncle. It was when P3 at 600mgz was top dog. Well anyways after about 4 years it started to do that and the problem was that the mobo was dying slowly but surely. So it really sounds like its the mobo from my experience.

Pull your RAM out and re-seat it. Clean it with alcohol even. Memory contacts can be really finnicky esp. after a few years. I cleaned mine (coolant spill) and all my boot troubles went away.

Just shooting random options.

It sounds like the voltage regulator section of your MB is going bad. You may want to get one of the cheap diagnostic cards off of ebay to see if it is your MB.

Good Luck

Well i thought i had narrowed this problem down to my motherboard but my replacement board got in yesterday and I'm experiencing the same problems, so I guess that leaves my cpu or ram as the problem, I don't think it's my psu because I've tried swapping that with my other pc's with no luck. What's happening with it now is everything turns on, no beeps at all, no response on monitor, all of the fans run except for the 2 exhaust case fans their leds light up but they don't spin unless I give the fan a nudge, and also the power led on the case continues blinking nonstop while pc is turned on or off, also sometimes when i tried turning it on it would turn off immediately then restart itself.

Sounds like it's in some kind of weird sleep mode with the case LED blinking like that. I know that if you try to boot up a comp with an incompatible chip the Case LED will blink steadily.......

Swap chips with your other comp, if it's got the socket for it.

Interesting.

tomshawson,

Your problem is mad grotesque but it really sounds like a cpu initialization issue.

I didn't know that mobo capacitors would leak.

When the go bad they can pop, or leak. Unless they are solid state, then they can't leak.
