Hello. I need some advise on buying a monitor. People on youtube mostly has Samsung Syncmaster 226BW (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096) and i'm asking if that could make huge difference with my CRT 17inch samsung. I like huge differences since it makes me confident about what i bought. Do you think it is a good idea to just buy a better monitor with more stuff (ports, HDMI output, ETC)and use it for long time? Samsung make good monitor and its designs but they always lack output options on back panel. So.. I hope you guys could give me some advise.

P.S I'm not good at monitor specs. So confusing. Although I see pixels.

If that card is 512m you can handle higher res, CRTs are crap, heavy, use a lot of power. That monitor is the best, you will love it.

Umm this might be a question to interfere with your privacy of monitor but do you use this monitor Mike>? My graphics card is 512mb memory ( signature ) I got $100 and my parents are goona support few hundreds for me to buy one. Buying a graphics card is good too but i just built my computer like 2 month ago and i don't want my 8800GT to be baried. I gotta get rid of my monitor first.

That LCD is great along with its specs so you should be quite pleased as going from a 17" CRT to a 22" WS LCD is quite the jump in size.

And no Miker does not have that monitor based on his sig.

I have 4 Samsung LCDs, love them all. CRTs are just crap, get a LCD, you will love it. 1680 x 1050pix will be well under the max for that card, but you will get slightly lower FPS compared to your old monitor, but the LCD will look 100x better then a CRT.

Ps. Your SIG doesn't say 512m.

I have 2x 17inch, one 27in and one 32inch.

Wow. I would put 32inch in the middle, 27inch on top, 17inches on sides if i had that setup. Oh and I gotta fix the sig. I have one question too ask. Do higher memory on cards support resolution the most?

You can set the resolution as high as your monitor is capable of doing since pretty much all video cards have a very high resolution compatibility.

256m is good up to 1280x1024. 512m is good for a long ways more.

The memory is used to store the bits for the color of the screen, 32bits per a pixel and for textures. You can run super high res on a 256m card, but the VRAM will bottleneck it.

In games yes having a video card with only 256MB of onboard memory will several hinder your card's performance.

Depending on what game and what card 256MB is good for at a max of 1280x1024.

Iono but i love crt monitors for some reason. I just like them better. I have a Mitsubishi Diamond pro 2020u and its also good as a heater in the winter. Seriously though that monitor would be alot better and the difference will be noticable.

I would get the newer model 2232bw, it is a bit better. Most notably it has 170°/170° viewing angle compared to 160°/160° on 226bw. 160/160 is perfectly good if you're looking from the sides across the entire room, but you really have to look pretty straight vertically. After a while when i begin to almost lay in my chair instead of sitting straight, the picture gets a bit dark from that angle.

I own a 226bw and i'm satisfied with it, but i have to admit this is my first lcd monitor so i cant really compare it to others. I went from an 19"crt to 22 lcd and the difference was quite noticeable although not really spectacular. I think it's a bit easier on the eyes though.

I will not judge the quality of TN panels compared to crt, but you get what you pay for, and if you won't be doing any graphics editing or something like that TN panels are good enough, specially for gaming where the low TN panel response times are great.

With that 8800GT of yours, you'll definitely see a HUGE difference from your current CRT.

I currently own a Viewsonic VX2235WM 22" LCD and if I didn't have it, I'll definitely go nowadays with the Samsung 226BW!

2 friends of mine just bought it and it presents a VERY GOOD image and has good contrast. I'm pretty sure it's better than my current ViewSonic, but I'm satisfied with it. ;-)

I say, GO FOR IT!!! :icon_tiphat:

Ok i forgot to think about different prices in different parts of the world.
Here the 2232bw is actually cheaper than 226bw so i makes little sense to go with the latter, but if it is substantially more expensive 226bw is still a better choice. Otherwise the only thing that may convince me to go with 226bw would be the great looking design.

I made a recent switch like this, and was amazed! You are going to be astonished at how big of a difference there is.
