Thats right EA and free are in the same sentence. It appears EA will put out Battlefield Heroes this summer. This will be a cartoon style, a nice spin on the current Battlefield series.

"Battlefield Heroes is a brand new game from the team behind Battlefield 1942™ and Battlefield 2™. It’s fun cartoon-style graphics and gameplay caters to players of all skill levels. It is easy to pick up and play but with robust character customization and a deep online meta-game, gamers can spend hours building up their characters and conquering the world."

Look to download it this summer for free at: www.battlefield-heroes.com

I wonder how many adds will this game have and how annoying they will be?. I really can't imagine EA and free being used in the same sentence so i'm quite skeptical about this. Maybe there is still some hope for EA but i doubt it. I hope it turns out to be as good as it sounds (if it weren't from EA).

edit: i just viewed the trailer and it looks even more promising

Knowing EA...heaps...as the whole game has been developed specifically to be ad driven.

I don't know if I'd rather pay for a game without ads or get the game for free but be bugged by ads all the time...

Yes, they love their ads and I think it'll show in this game

Well slap me silly and call me Bob...:ahhhhh:

According to this LINK (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51557), Battlefield Heroes will not contain ANY in-game ads...

Rather, the advertising revenue will come from the title's official web site, which players must visit to launch the game. A bright yellow "Play Now!" button will be prominently featured on the page, along with news posts, details on purchasable items, and, of course, banner ads.

The animation style reminds me of TF2.

I wouldn't mind banner ads on server selection screens and product placements ingame such as billboard ads though. Acutally, I prefer that to annoying website ads.

The animation style reminds me of TF2.

I would say it was heavily inspired by TF2

Direct ripoff?

When was the last time you actually saw a new game idea? It's kinda like Hollywood there are no new ideas in Hollywood they just recombine old ones.

Games are the same. Is Company of Heros a ripoff of CnC probably, I have both anyway. Long as it plays well, I don't care if they pulled it out of their butt.

Hmm that's a surprise, it might turn out to be an enjoyable game after all.
I would not mind a few ingame adds cause the game is not meant to be realistic in the first place, but this way is even better.

Direct ripoff?Id say TF2 was pretty original for it to be rip'd off by EA so quickly. Id say thats probably why its free.

I heard a rumor that you had to PAY in order to get upgrades and stuff to your weapon kits.

At least that's what My Clan Buddies are saying

That would not be surprising at all, let's hope it's just a nasty rumor.

Euphemisms my friend, euphemisms.Nah, Valve had a hit on their hands so EA decided they would make their version of the game. Thats the only explination EA isnt trying to make money off this.
