According to the manual for the part name: The NVIDIA SPP with Active fan (northbridge?).

Is anyone having a problem with the fan making a lot of noise after starting the PC for about 5 minutes?:help:

Thanks!

So no one out there has noticed a noise coming from the "NVIDIA SPP" (Northbridge?) that goes away after a few minutes????

Guess I'm just lucky

I don't have any issue like that. Though, I own the 680i not the LT version. The fan noise can be adjusted if you set the temprature threadshold under the bios.

I know what you are talking about because i have experienced it once or twice.

That sound is made by the fan when it spins at less than full speed, i just tested it with the nvidia performace program. Basically the reason yours makes sound is because it doesnt quite spin at full speed for a bit, then it gets to full speed... thus removing the sound

Maybe try setting the fan speed to a fixed rpm with SpeedFan or in the bios

Quite a lot of people have reported this problem on other forums. My solution was to remove the active chipset cooling from the board and put on Thermalright HR-05s (of course you void your warranty by doing so). My idle temperatures on the MCP and SPP (I have thermal probes installed) never dropped below 55 degrees celsius. After installing thermalrights, my overclocked full load temperatures never go above 43 degrees. They're passive heatsinks, so no fan noise...
