Hey Guys,

Here is a thing, yesterday i installed Nero 8 and today when I turned on my system I only got a white desktop with no applications on them and everytime I restart it starts with my documents. The folder is already open and I can navigate through, but I just don't see the task bar and the desktop at all. I cannot even navigate those areas with the shortcut keys. Now here is the problem, I did not have system restore on and I cannot restore my computer. I tried window's last know configuration startup but that did not help. I tried uninstalling Nero, but that did not help. Right now I am running a virus scan on my other operating system, as we speek it looks like it found a virus, but i am not sure if that is the problem. Can somebody help out? Did anybody have a problem like this before?

Here is a small picture of the problem that I am having:

Basicaly no TaskBar, And no desktop, windows starts up into my documents and I can only navigate through my computer, it is pretty annoying since I want to access my files from all over the place, start and everything. BTW, I already deleted the virus that I had, (i bet it is from my sister, because she goes on sh*t sites when she is using my computer) Well any help would help!

Edit: Ok, I just got an idea and opened up task manager, and went to run, and I put in "explorer.exe". Once I did that windows started up just right. Now all I have to figure out what is causing this problem and how I can fix it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Window's last know configuration does not work for me either most of the time. But is also worth a shot.

Okay, this is what I suggest.
Vista Normal Mode - on your keyboard there is a windows key.
Hold the windows key and symulteneously hit the "R" key as well.
There should be run window that comes up. Type "Explorer"

If this does not happen, try to restart computer and go to safe mode and uninstall nero.

Hey,

Sorry, you might not have seen my edit note on the end of the post. I actually found out that if I do explorer.exe that it sturts up just ok, but now I don't understand why it is doing it every time I restart windows. It does it in safe mode as well and I already uninstalled nero and deleted all the files but nothing happened. Deleted viruses and adware/spywares. Do you think I might have a corrupted system file?

Thanks for the help though

Sorry I did not see that.

Yeah...I would definitely uninstall Nero and restart computer.
See if Windows is back to normal.

Alright, I think I know what it is. My sister has a the same problem She got if from Myspace. All I did was that I went on her myspace to listen to her music, but I guess I got infected as well. Screw her Myspace, that's why I hate myspace. Well what could I do now. Even if I run NOD32, and delete all viruses, it comes back somehow. Now it not only turns off explorer.exe, but also gives me shi*y adds on the sites. Any ideas guys? I think I am going to reinstall Windows Vista, and this time I will go with the 64-bit version. :)

It could be a clone bug since it pops back up when you restart even if a virus scanner caught it and deleted it. I had a one like that and the only solution was to do a freah install.

If you can't seem to get rid of it I guess you'll have no choice but to go with the last resort of doing a fresh install.

Those are usually root kits, hard to get rid of but AVG has a root kit removal tool, and probably what it did to disable explorer is modify all copies of System.ini and Boot.ini by erasing the "Explorer" part of "Shell=Exporer.exe"

Sorry didn't see it earlier.

Thanks for the information, this will come handy if I run into a problem like this again. Although I really like the new clean windows. It always feels good to have a clean problem free system. :)
