Im about to install Vista Ultimate 32 bit from XP Pro (clean install). Just wondering what people think... stick with XP or go with Vista? My system is pretty new for the most part and will handle Vista.

Stay with XP... Vista does work now, but XP is still faster.
Or do a dual boot of each.

I dual boot from separate drives through bios selection. When Vista gets mature enough I'll switch over.

Interesting. Well, I took the Vista plunge and installed the 32 bit version. I can tell you that I was VERY impressed at how well it found and installed all my drivers. I also added Office 2007 and cant believe how excellent it is.
I also use Open Office on another PC running Ubuntu and I love that too but Office 2007 is da shiz'nit.
Im installing TF2 on Vista now via Steam, I cant wait to see how well it works! Im so excited. I also installed the original Doom and Wolfenstein Spear of Destiny via some DOS emulator (cant remember the name right now... DOS Box maybe???).

Be sure you do all the updates before you go to SP1 on Vista, there's a required update that will cause havoc if you don't install it before SP1. Can't find the link to it sorry.

Personally, I have been using Vista on several PC's now for a couple of months...
I like it. The PC's are fast enough, and if I need a little more speed, I turn some things off like Sidebar...
Although I do not play games on my PC anymore.
What surprises me is that people actually expect Vista to provide a speed increase. OSes are heading more towards Eye candy. Look at games, the more eye candy there is, the slower they run. Vista is no different. The more eye candy you run, the slower it will be...

I still recommend Windows Xp.All the games will work worse in Vista than in XP,so if you want max settings in games, with all AA on,I highly recommend XP.

There is also another thing to consider, related to games and graphic heavy programs. Since Vista is still relatively new a large number of games and slightly older Photo Editing, Rendering, Animation, Video, and Music related applications simply won't run on it. There is also a long list of other programs, which have had some trouble adapting to Vista, so you might have some trouble customizing it how you'd like.
I agree with Methious, that a dual boot is the best option for now, but if you have to make a choice between the two try and take into account how much of the software you use now is not yet Vista compatible. There is also the issue of Vista being so new and by virtue of being a Windows OS the #1 target for security exploits.

Vista does well enough. It might have more eye candy but it is more secure (not talking about crappy UAC either) and the kernel is optimized a bit better for multi-core systems.
The graphics issue could still be a driver thing although I think that it could also be something to do with M$'s programming. Don't know yet.
The biggest thing that slows down Vista is the stuff that's running in the background that you don't need. A good tweaking and it'll run fast enough for anyone. XP can be tweaked much more than Vista atm but it took a while for people to discover the tweaks so Vista has a bit to go yet.
I think M$ also rushed a bit on programming Vista, I think Windows 7 will be MUCH better because thier having more time to work on it. :-D

Welcome to the Vista club, you will find things are not as many have said they are.
Don't worry about game performance, you might lose a frame or two here and there, or gain a few here and there, all in all you won't be noticing any difference.
Install all the hotfixes, update your drivers, disable UAC, and go through "msconfig" and disable stuff that you don't use, like Readyboost.

Wow really I just clean installed my Vista the other day got rid of XP once and for all decided to go back to vista as its much more pleasant for my up to date system and I just shot the SP1 right in no prior updates and its been working superb. Didnt even know of that issue but has given me no problems.
Also small note en3rgy if you notice (most not all) people that trash Vista have older systems that cant handle it as well. I on the other hand have it running smooth on my other SYS: skt939 3600+ x2 2.0ghz, 1gb DDR400 ram, 80gb IDE HDD, ATI HD2600XT. you get the picture. anyway....

EXACTLY!!! I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit for almost a year now (!!!) and IT IS TRUE I had problems in the past with Vista, but I think with all the patches and hotfixes Vista is much more stable now.
And...I don't see any performance decrease on Vista (again, maybe you lose a frame or two, but it's not that critical).
So, I can conclude and say I'm quite satisfied with Vista right now after almost a year of usage and I can definitely recommend you to install it (along with all the patches/hotfixes and the lastest SP1 of course...;-))
