My small school on the island of North Haven Maine (total of 64 kids kindergarten-12th grade) has a school-wide wireless T1 Connection and i felt like going to Speedtest.net and running a couple of tests...here are the results

The first one i ran was in rockland Maine...fairly close to north haven....thats where our fairy boat goes.

The second test i did was down at Tampa Florida....about a couple of hours of where i used to live Sarasota, Florida

i found it kinda weird that the test all the way down to tampa was much faster than the one to rockland.....is there any reason why?

It could be not because of distance but because different servers have different loads.

Or the amount of people using one server at any given time. That ratios may have simply been better in Tampa, or maybe since it's much colder in Maine people are more likely to stay inside and watch Youtube or whatnot. Could be anything really.

Also depends on router loads, heading north the router up there could be overloaded.

I always use this URL to see whats going on around the world.

My cable badnwidth is faster. lol. But then again, your school's t1 is a shared connection . . .

Could be a tons of things.

Only really fair thing to compare would be you school's T1 the day it was installed, then now. That way you have a baseline for performance, if you get 1,000 kbps normally, and 100 kbps for a few days in a row, then you know you have an issue that you might want to take a look at.

haha yeah....the school's T1 is distributed using wireless routers all over the school, we have two servers ( one being a G5 with a array of 4 250gig Hdd running in raid 1) and theres tons of separate computers using the internet constantly.
