Hello everyone!

I have a semi-newb question for those in the know. It goes like this..... Would I be able to slam some PC2-8500 G. Skill into my P5N-D? I mean the board runs at 1333mhz, right? I was thinking all I would have to do is adjust the timings and maybe the voltage manually, right? What are you thoughts on this one. I'm poised and ready to click checkout at newegg right now. I know the P5N-D is only rated for PC2-6400 but that just doesn't make much sense to me. What if I just ran the memory and CPU in 1:1, what would happen then?

My girlfriend has pre-ordered the dreaded q9450 and I would definatley not try to run RAM with that ratio then but I would adjust the timings. May I have some of your thoughts on that issue as well?

Thanks guys,

ABerd

You could always look at the memory compatibility list on the board.

ABerd, I hear you but that list is so confining. I have never bought any of that RAM on there. Actually, I think I've only bought RAM once. That was before I understood what RAM was all about and what to look for. It's always a learning process but now I know what I want. I just need to figure out if I can adjust the timings and voltage to run faster ram and still be stable.

I'm thinking that it's not really overclocking the RAM if it's specifications call for higher voltages and tightened timings. I honestly don't know what P5N-D will say about popping in some PC2 8500 but if it disagrees slightly I could just up the ante with voltage and timing settings but if she really gets pissed then I imagine I won't be booting anything.

This was posted in the Asus forum:

The 750i chipset is spec'ed for PC2-6400 memory as you already know.....

However, Crucial has some PC2-8500 kits that are compatible.
