Hello Guys,
A friend of mine just recommended this site for tech info. He reassured me you are the best : )
I currently have the EVGA 8800GTS P/N 320 P2-N811-BR
on an Nvidia SLI motherboard
I am looking to buy a second card to run SLI
Newegg has the EVGA 8800 GTS P/N 320 P2-N81-AR
THe only differnece in serial numbers is the last two letters...BR vs AR
Are they compatable?
Thank you in advance for any time devoted to this matter.
I anxiously await you response.

Any same GPU is compatible for example 2 6600GTs, 2 7950GTs, 2 8800GTS (G92) ect. You can have different brands and different memory sizes but i recomend you go with same memory size at least and same clocks.
Just to let you know SLI isnt that great.

SLI is supposed to do the best at highest resolutions but I've never seen super high resolutions first-hand with SLI.
You'll SLI those two cards together perfectly fine, the model number doesn't matter as long as it's the same GPU (in this case, a 8800GTS).
The memory sizes can be mixed and matched but if one is 512 and the other is 256, the 512 card will only see 256 to match the other card.
If you're not going to be gaming on a larger monitor, it would probably be best waiting for the next gen cards. :icon_tiphat:

Probably best to wait for the next generation: my two sons both have twin 8800GTS on their PC's. The SLI performance isn't great (better on the 26inch Samsung than the 19inch BENQ). One (with the BENQ monitors) usually prefers to use twin monitors which you cannot do with SLI.
The drivers for the 9600GT cards seem much improved for SLI performance. From the various reviews around now you may even be better selling your existing 8800GTS and putting in a pair of 9600GTs (or why wait a couple of months for the high end 9-series, especially if you want a huge monitor?)

Just stick with one card for sake of this guys confusing post. Wait for 9800GTX if you have the money.
Waste of money IMO. I'd opt for one single fast card then sell it and buy the next, next-gen card afterwords. Saves you money and headaches.
With the money you save you could put it towards your monitor.... or if you play racing games, a G25! lol
Damn, I want a G25 so bad.....
i know this is an old thread, but I just got a free evga 8800GTS 320 (PN:320-p2-N811-br). I want to sli the item, but I can't find the same one.
would it be ok to SLI my 8800GTS 320 with part number 320-p2-N815-AR?
Thanks in advanced

Just run the single card, SLI on a old card like that is not worth it. You would be better off buying a new 9800.

To answer your question, yes you should be able to SLI those cards.

typh4u, thanks for answering the question straight up.
The question wasn't whether he should run the two cards SLI, but whether he could run the two cards SLI. And the answer is, yes he can.
The EVGA Spec Sheet (http://www.evga.com/support/specs/default.asp?fam=19) for both cards is exactly the same.
I do wonder sometimes how many of the SLI naysayers have no experience whatsoever with SLI.
Some folks have a tendancy to think that others have the wealth of Bill Gates and can afford to buy a more expensive card because, in their belief, a more expensive card is always better than SLI. Or they perhaps think that others have the patience of Job and should wait for something else to come along (non-SLI).
With two cards in SLI, you can gain performance in games.
With two cards non-SLI, you can gain PPD for Folding @ Home.
Just something to think about.

I thought you liked SLI bro? I have always wanted a SLI system, and although my system is not current it is fun to play with.

But you dont run in a higher res so you wont see as much of a difference in performance. Though im sure its a pain to set up SLI sometimes.

Hell if it was free, why not SLI them? I wouldn't go out and buy an SLI motherboard just to do it but if you've already got the capability then go for it. And yes those cards will work fine together.
I've used SLI before and yes two of a lesser card is usually not as efficient as 1 of a better card, but if someone gave me a GTX 260 free you can bet I'd SLI them instead of selling both and buying a 280.

I don't like S.L.I.
A big waste of money. One graphic card is enough.

I thought you liked SLI bro? I have always wanted a SLI system, and although my system is not current it is fun to play with.SLI is awesome for a bigger epeenis. Where the performance was concernd i was very disappointed, scaling was horrible, support was horrible, and HEAT was horrible. The only reason i had SLI was because i got the first card free and the second was 80 bucks. Cant raelly beat that when 7950GTs where still 250 back in the day.
