View Full Version : 9800 GT - to buy now or not?

I'm fairly new to all this, but from what I've read here and on other sites, the 8800GT seems to be the best value card available now.

I'm thinking of getting one, but wondered if anyone could help with these questions:

- will the 9800GT be as good value as the 8800GT?
- will it be better than the 8800GT and in what ways? Some of the 9x00 cards just seem to be 8x00 cards with minimal improvements?
- will the 8800GT come down in price big-time when the 9800GT comes out?

I don't really want to spend 150 pounds on a card and then find a new/better card is available for the same money a week later...

Can anyone help?

Thanks everyone

I would wait at least thru the entire month of March to see what is out. 9xxx cards coming out March thru April.

If they rumors are true about the rebadged 9800 GT then you can get a 8800 GT for a lot less. So id just wait and see like Scott said.

i'm waiting too but a bit longer, at least until hd4x00 comes out. It is rumored to be released in late Q2. So i will be able to pick between 9800gt and hd4x00. Yes waiting sucks.

Things should get quite interesting in the next coming months so I would just wait it out. Yes I know waiting is a pain but thats all you can do but you'll see that the time will just fly by and before you know it, new cards will out in the wild.

Ah the waiting game, but something new is always around the corner. Kinda pointless.

The 9800GT is going to use the same architecture and core as the 8800 GT does but it will support tri-sli and have better video offloading if I am not mistaken.

In terms of value well that remains to be seen but looking at what early scores of the 9800GTX are coming in at then I would say value is not a word associated with the 9800GT just yet.

The 9600GT screams value for $130.00
