So I was talking with some mates on IRC tonight, helping some guy out with his OS choice (64bit/32bit) and one of the guys mentioned that Vista 32bit is being merged with 64bit. Confirm/Deny?

Sounds like some guy heard from his cousin who got it from his uncle's ex-wife's friend that someone's Sister (Vista) had sex with four men (64-bit) before the marriage (merge).

The 32-bit and 64-bit version are on the same disc. There is no merging going on and you need to tell those guys on IRC they are clueless.

Yah, unless they are talking about 32-bit compatability in 64-bit then they don't know what's going on with Vista.

They might have been referring to Vista 32 and it's up and coming ability to recognize 4 gig of ram correctly in the near future.

Note that recognizing and utilizing are two different things Vista 32 will see and report correctly the amount of ram, but still use only 3.2-3.5G. It's just a software patch to keep people not in the know from harping about seeing only part of the ram.

Another fine MS patch designed to deceive and relieve.

If it shuts the noobs up, I admire the tactic. People with a DELL and think they're master modders putting another 2 gig in their factory 32bit.

Enjoying my six gig of ram in 64bit Ultimate mind you. There is no reason not to go 64bit OS. What I'm trying to say: 32bit Vista is pointless.

Yes, yes, I know 64bit > 32bit. That's not what this thread is about. Anyway, thanks for confirming that the guy is a newbie and doesn't know wtf he's talking about.
