There should me a OverClock Menu of some type. Make sure you know what you are doing.

there is no overclock menu. is there a key combination to press to unlock that option? I know that is how it is on some ASUS boards.
edit: mmm nevermind seems that I need to use Nvidia software that dynamically changes motherboard settings.

No... Don't ever use Ntune or whatever to OC your Mobo, do that from BIOS. I know for a fact you have a Overclock menu in your BIOS.
It should be called "Extreme Tweaker"?

is there a bios i do not know about?
I press del when the XFX splash screen comes up, I have the standard CMOS options. I go to sytem clock and the CPU Freq and FSB clocks are greyed out and not changable. but the mulitplier for some reason can be changed this time.
Pheonix - AwardBIOS.
"extreme tweaker" isnt that for ASUS boards?

Yes, that is ASUS, 90% of BIOSs now are by Pheonix.
One Menu is just for OCing, one is for Monitoring.
Do you have a advanced tab? Just open every BIOS page and you will find it.

I dont have any OCing menus. I am now getting frustrated as it seems like I cant OC with this board. and finding information is pretty much futile.

There is a way to OC it from BIOS, it is under a different, menu, but that is all I know. One of the pages might say "F8 for Advanced" or something.
Don't say you can't OC it, everyone that has a 780i overclocks it.

not seeing that. even with the nvidia utilitys I dont have the "performance settings" or "bios update" options. its like i have been crippled those options for my own good by big brother. :-x

I wonder if i need to update my bios, i find it hard to believe that i would need to considering how new the board is.

yea im emarassed at how obvious it was. my problem now is that I cant OC the FBS @ 9x multiplier beyond 299, but I am using 8x multiplier @ 400 FSB. stress testing it now.

Sounds like a voltage issue. I'm running at 3.5 GhZ on that board. That's about a 388FSB. I have found the GTLVref in the voltages can make a difference as well. Found a setting that the comp wouldn't boot at all on auto, but when I set the Vref to 35,80.35.80 it ran nice and stable.

when i set the core voltage to 1.45 it worked ok @ 9 x 400. after about 20 minutes i get random BSoD, but I think it is from overclocking the memory to from 800 to 900. Ill step the memory back to 800 and see how long I can keep the system stabe at 3.6 w/stress test.

I'm new at overclocking and would really appreciate if you can give me some pointers. just finished building my system and everyrthing is in stock. I don't want to push the hardware to its limits just want it to be stable. thanks heaps in advance. stable.:icon_tiphat:

as cooling, i have a zalman CNPS9700-NT
I would like to overclock my cpu to at least 3.0Ghz.
can you tell me what to set in the bios ( fsb etc..) btw i never overclocked before exept for pre loaded profiles, but i know how to get around bios.
Oh and i have 4GB(2x2GB)corsair ram (the ones with a silver huge heatsink on them).
thanks people:icon_tiphat:
