I dl'd azereus the other day, but after 5 minutes of dling from it my internet connection dies and I have to restart my comp. I tried reducing the global maximum connections to a rediculously low number but it still dies (although it did last a bit longer.. but this isnt the problem). I've been using bitlord for a couple years now and its never had a problem (even going at 300 kb/s). Azereus broke my connection at about 700 kb/s, but after lowering settings it was going at 150 kb/s and still broke my connection. Any ideas how to fix this? thx =|
if not, whats another torrent program thats way up there? is Utorrent a good substitute for azereus?

i have used azereus in hte past. I think it's a bit buggy as some version works well but some is causing me headach. I use bitcomet primarily. I use the 0.70 version as it's the most stable one that I have used in the xp.

Maybe try reducing your "Max simulaneous outbound connection attemps" under Connection > Advanced Network Settings
Make sure your port is properly forwarded as well. What's your modem and router?

i dont even know.. got them both in year 2000. All I know is that they work.. maybe outdated router is the prob?
yea i reduced the max simultaneous thing to 5 I think, didn't do anything =|

Your port is properly forwarded right? Tools > Nat/Server Port > Test
Try enabling "Use lazy bitfield" Under Transfer
Another thing, make sure your upload is only using about 75% of your max upload speed

At first I used Azereus but even since I gave µTorrent a try, I never gave Azereus a second look.
µTorrent > Azereus.
Unless Azereus isn't a resource hog like it used to be when I used it, I would consider giving µTorrent a try.

Let's try and fix the problem itself before taking on an alternative shall we? :)

Well, he did ask so I'm throwing it out there.
Heres a suggestion, try a direct connection instead of using a router.

I love Azureus... only program I use for torrents, I don't even use the torrent client built into Opera.
This problem is either because you did not change XP/Vista's hard cap of 10 on the number of simultaneous half-open connections, or because your router can't handle the load. It should not have anything to do with pure bandwidth... and if your computer is the only one affected when it happens then it is definitely not the router. ;) If it was the router then everyone else on the network would also be knocked offline.
Both XP and Vista have this TCP/IP connection limit... if you use a program such as Azureus it will make the absolute most of what your system is able to handle far above this very tiny limit of 10. When a program does this it can sometimes break XP's networking stack, upon which you have to reboot to properly reset it. Changing the artificial limit to 50 or 100 would fix this problem.
There are many articles on Microsoft's site describing how and why this works, and plenty more describing how to modify it in both XP SP2 and Vista. Here's a quickie: http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497
A better explanation is available here (http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/07/17/tcpip-has-reached-the-security-limit-imposed-on-the-number-of-concurrent-tcp-connect-attempts-error-on-windows-vista/).
