Hi all,
I recently purchased and installed an XFX 680i LT motherboard from TigerDirect.com. When it came to start it up for the first time, it would not POST or even reach the XFX splash screen. I had read here that memory speeds were often an issue, so I removed one stick. I had to move one around DIMM slots, but I eventually got into BIOS and then POST and boot into XP. This was done with one 1 GB OCZ Reaper HPC at 4-4-4-15 (2T) at 2.1v in DIMM number 3 (a black one, on the furthest right/ closest to the hard drives.
This was all well and good, but I was not able to install the second 1 GB stick into another slot and get it to POST. In fact, the computer will only POST with a stick in DIMM #3 at various speeds and voltages.
I know both sticks work, as they worked fine in my previous cheap ECS board, plus I tried each in DIMM#3 and both worked. I also tried some Corsair XMS 800 whose standard is 5-5-5-12 at 1.9v, and same outcome. The sticks only worked if in #3. If a stick was in any other slot, it would not POST, which seems strange to me b/c it seems that a stick in a dead slot would not affect it one way or another.
I also updated the BIOS to P07, knowing this would probably do nothing, and it didn't. If anything can be done to fix this problem so both are recognized, it would be much appreciated, as I don't want to have to RMA, but I'm afraid of this and have already submitted a ticket to XFX.
Thanks
