That's the coolest thing I've seen all day!

I saw these on discovery channel's daily planet a few weeks back. Just amazing, beautiful in motion. Graceful in a mechanical kind of way.

I've seen this before, but in never ceases to amaze, truly awesome.

I dont see whats so great about oversized Kenex. Somebody want to enlighten me?

You dont need to wind up an elastic band to make these move.... They use wind!!

PP Mguire

And when theres no wind? Like most all of summer here in Texas. You gonna have a bunch of fat guys get behind it and fart?

This guy also gave a talk at TED, check it out at ted.com. They have a lot of inspirational and often mind-blowing talks over there. Dean Kamen, Richard Dawkins, Burt Rutan... The talks are only 18 minutes long so you're not going to get bored anyway, but if you want to know what some of the most brilliant people on the planet are doing and thinking, it's a good place to start. :)

That is just awesome that man is something more.

No no, they contain air bladders aswell, During times of high wind they compress the air into tanks for later use. You need to read up on these before you start talking.
Also the reason why these animals only live on the dutch coast....

PP Mguire

Only on Dutch coast, yea i knew that. Which is why right now they are pointless. When we can use them, then ill call him "genious". But until then this guys no Einstein

It must suck going threw life with such a ****ty attitude. They are sculptures, they dont need to serve a purpose other then to be seen. appreciate the art or don't, your choice.

I have a pretty good attitude towards things that make a difference but you dont call somebody the next "DaVinci" or "genious" for making things that dont benefiet man kind like DaVinci did. Hes just a guy with a good imagination, and a great engineer. He should actualy do something with a mind like that.

03-23-2008, 10:25 PM
you watch the vid even.... hear him say "part of me as an engineer wants to map the progress of mobility"
You dont think the appendages he creates for these machines dont have an impact on modern day robotics like boston dynamics bigdog?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=W1czBcnX1Ww

Don't forget we didn't have a use for most of da vinci's devices till long after his death. Not to mention the comparison between this mans work in mechanical kenetics as to da vinci's Vitruvian Man.

Now that BigDog Robot was impressive. :) And yeah, I do agree with Tyle!

PP, whenever something gets invented, like for example that wind powered robot, the ideas spread throughout the world, giving others ideas. Then those other people make the real thing that can actually be used for something.

For example, let's take a look at Einstein. He is not a genius, but they call him that. He was actually a very bad student and he did not know almost anything about math. All he had done was that he came up with ideas, then he gave those ideas to others to investigate, and do the calculations. Do you see what I am trying to say here?

How do you get something like that stop once it gets going I wonder.

The man has a very beautiful mind. It is a welcome change to see someone with such imagination contoured with intelligence. It's inspiring! I have no doubt that some of his inventions will come to use for something that will improve us in some way.

Oh yeah they give Nobel prizes to anyone these days... Sheesh! I mean really, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to revolution physics right?

Especially if by 'bad at math' you mean 'could still perform calculations I can't even understand with my masters in maths.' :)

It's true that his wife was a much better mathematician than Einstein himself and probably did a lot of the work. But genius can also mean getting other people to do your work for you... :)

Wasn't Einstein's IQ 160? Da Vinci's is 220. Kinda of a big difference. But IQ score does not mean you you cannot make an impact. Arnold Schwarzenegger's score is 135 and look at him go.

Einstein was dyslexic like me, dyslexia doubles your IQ for some thing, yet cuts it to 1 in other things. I can't write a good paragraph, yet I am great with my hands and understanding things.

You cannot measure Einstein's IQ with just anybody. All the IQ tests are done differently. For example, if you take an IQ test from something you know very well, for example math, you may score like 200, but then you take an english IQ and you score only 90. So Einstein could have gotten such a high score in IQ if it was about the subject he knew. He would have been a total loser in other parts.

Lol yea ok :dielaffin:

How about you do some research and then laugh!

Einstein is my dads hero, i know alot about him. Thats why i can sit back and laugh if you cant call him a genious.

Well, everybody looks at things in a different way, and even if we would argue about this it would not change our point of view, so let's just leave this all here. Arguing would be pointless, but I do get your point of view PP if you look at it from a different persepctive. :)

Huh, how did they measure the IQ of a dead person? I don't think you can directly compare the intellect of Einstein to Leonardo. Einstein ran the most incredible experiments inside his head and ended up seeing the Universe in a way that was completely different than what the rest of humanity perceived.
Leonardo da Vinci observed the Universe in depth and details that was unmatched by anyone else before or since, and intuited a lot of the workings of the universe from that.

Completely different men, completely different forms of intelligence, imho. That's why I think this sculptor guy is more of a Leonardo than an Einstein, he might not be a 'genius' but his sculptures certainly reflect deep observations of the mechanics of life, design, and the emergence of organizations such as 'intelligence' in lifeforms, natural or artificial... If Art is meant to change our perception, then this is both art and science and the mix is something a great deal of people should strive to achieve. :)
