Well I just took the plunge and ordered myself a laptop, I decided to go Dell 'cause they had better specced laptops than the other (for a similar price).

Specs below:
Dell XPS M1530 Laptop

2.5GHz, 6MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB
Operating System Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium - with AERO experience

Internal Optical Drive Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
Video Card 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8600M GT

One thing I find curious though is why they offer an upgrade to 4Gb RAM but no option for upgrading to 64-bit operating system...anyways, I can't wait to get my hands on it and see what it can do.

Thanks.

I'll run some benchies for ya...yea I was thinking of going with the T8300 but the T9300 has double the cache and it was only about AU$100 extra so I thought 'what-the-heck' just go for it.

AWESOME! The Dell XPS M1530 has become really popular these past few months, and for good reasons! The specs look great, especially the processor!

Thanks, yea I think the M1530 is a good middle-ground for portability and performance...what I wanted was a laptop that would be reasonably light but also able to play some games if need be...the M1330's screen is a bit small but it is less than 2kg's and the M1730 is powerful and would be able to play most games I play fast as but it weighs over 3kg's so the M1530 was a perfect fit for me personally and with the free upgrades it became even better value to me...:-D

Well yesterday I received my new laptop, it looks very nice, I've done some 3DMark06 tests and it gets between 3k-4k depending on res and quality (1680x1050 4xAA/AF scores around 3k, default settings score around 3.8k).

I am working on a more thorough review, with pics and stuff, and will post link to it once it is done...will take a while due to work and family.

No offense but Dell laptops blow- our school has a partnership with Dell Canada so their tech guys come and bring some equipment for us to learn with- we have like 20 brand new Inspiron m1505's and a few XPS machines- both desktop and laptop- Dells in general have poorly built systems- go for an IBM, Lenovo, or Toshiba laptop- even if I may be biased...

Haven't had much experience with IBM or Lenovo but have seen all kinds of trouble with Toshiba's. Drives going bad, sound cutting out and so on. Only had one problem with my Dell laptop, and they fixed it. The tech bricked the mobo trying to flash the BIOS remotely (he wasn't very smart) and they replaced it. May seem like a lot of work for a dead battery, but they replaced that too, hehe.

Yaa, I had a Toshiba for school back in the day. Diskdrive went bad and we just got a external one. It was by no means a good Toshiba though.

It's a dell don't expect too much....

I prefer Compaq/HP or Gateway...For a laptop

My desktops are all custom built myself for me...

I'll never buy another Gateway. Less than 4 months old, the pin inside the DC input broke loose. 2 months later it wouldn't charge anymore.
