Here is my current setup: 9500 Phenom, M2N-SLI, 2GB 667 Samsung, 250GB Sata, 8800GT (on its way)

I need to know what ram I should get, and how much of a difference it will make. I was looking at the OCZ SLI ram, but I'm not sure it's for me. I play Crysis, and do web design work with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks.

Get 2x 2G of RAM for Photoshop and what not; pc800 if your PC will run it.

Lose the Phenom and get a nice intel Quad core if you want Photoshop to run uber fast.

Okay, I was going for brands, I pretty much had the other stuff figured out.

I would have to suggest Corsair because I am a fan boy, over at there forum they have good support too.

I would got with a nice 4GB Corsair or OCZ memory kit. Preferably a 2x2GB kit for more compatibility.

EDIT: Here is a good 4GB memory kit:
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) Dual Channel Kit Memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227284) - $60

Little more, $84 after MIR but you get some sweet RAM.

I know everyone says corsair, and what not but I tried this and absolutely swear by it as it is greatly overclockable and runs cool at the same time it is backwards compatible to the lower DDR2 standards it is JEDEC 1.8v but you can increase volts as needed for OC'ing mine is currently running @ 910mhz 2.1volts no issues and stays cool comes with Heatsinks.... Heres a link. Also I've found that it is widely compatible and is on most memory compatibilty lists with lots of the major Boards like ASUS, ASROCK, MSI, PCCHIPS, etc. and it works great with XFX.

This is 2x 1gb:

Read the reviews and specs...Also wait for the B3 revision Phenom then make AMD exchange the one you have for the B3 the B2 revision which im sure is the one you have has flaws and cant run at its full potential. Also one more helpful hint that M2n SLI board you have doesnt truly support the PHENOM it doesnt support HT3.0 so you wont get the benefit of the Phenoms 3600MT/s you will get the clocks and Quad core but will be limited to only 2000MT/s (hyper transport) as if you were running an X2 you would have been better off with a 6000+ X2 or 6400+ X2 which at current out performs the phenom. or get a board that supports the 5200MT/s and DDR2 1066 with PHENOMS...heres a link to a board for example.

OCZ and Patriot are both excellent for RAM. :icon_tiphat:

Well here is what I found for ASUS but its only the hybrid SLI I will search for more and post as I find them. Also read this it doesnt sound to bad. Also unfortunatelay since AMD is ATI they havent released to many MB's with nvidia chips yet for the phenom just a marketing strategy to keep people buying AMD/ATI. But I did see a post somewhere showing a whole slew of MB's coming out soon with SLI. I think it was a post by PP.

Nevermind you may have to figure out where to buy it but this NICE and exactly what you need with full PHENOM support, PCI-E 2.0 and DDR2 1066...... Imay even pick one of these up...

IT'S NEW....

Strap a PHENOM and 4gbs 1066 in this thing with 2 nice SLI graphics card and watch it fly.

I dont know about the rest of you but i would never buy a Biostar motherboard.. I have always hear terrible things about them and its not even a brand i would consider.

Yea, thanks for your opinion, I'm not going to move to them, I really like ASUS! They seem to be a very well rounded company.

Yea I'd wait for the Crosshair II, but I may still pick up the Biostar and run it through the mill who knows they may suprise us all for once.

I found a few sites in Japan that are selling the Crosshair II but the price is around $400 :jawdrop:

I know MSI has some boards lined up but I don't know the dates of them.

The M3N-HT Deluxe is another great motherboard from Asus but it's probably going to cost around $250, or at least that's my best guess.

There is always the option to sell your current setup and go with intel... The prices are dropping all the time and 45nm chips are just taking off so the prices are bound to get better and better...

jellyrole
03-27-2008, 02:17 AM
True, but I think if I wait a few months, AMD should have their act together, and companies will soon start making more AMD mother boards than before. I just got this, and don't really feel like selling and buying again.

If your going to go with the 790i I suggest the XFX same price better support and warranty.

Jellyrole you do realize the 790i is DDR3 right? Youll be spending way outa your budget for ram alone.

Dragon_CPU

Very good point PP I totally forgot about that go with the XFX 780i unless you can afford the way expensive DDR3.

Of course this price isnt too bad.

Yea, I decided since I was getting a job that I'm going to pick all my parts now, and work toward that price. That way I have no set budget and I can get a really good computer to last me a while.

By the time you make the money to pay for everything though things could change (Like they always do) so its kinda pointless to do that. I used to do it all the time and it never worked out. I just save, then buy what i can at the time.

jellyrole
03-28-2008, 04:53 AM
Well then, I'll save up probably $1000 then get what I want then.

Yah, 1k for the main parts (cpu, mobo, ram, video, psu) is plenty for a nice build.

I was just abot to say if you wanna future proof go with a 9800GX2 or GTX but.....nah.
