Running Vista Home Premium 64bit

Just installed SP 1 and have been having some anomalies. I am considering erasing the HD and just reinstalling the OS sans SP 1. I have done this countless times starting with Win 95 up to the present (QDOS does not count;-)). My normal sequence has been this:

1. Debug/FDISK/Format
2. Load OS
3. Load drivers for Ethernet if needed
4. Load OS updates
5. Load latest MOBO Drivers
6. Load latest Video Card Drivers
7. Load latest Sound Card Drivers
8. Load Apps
9. Regardless of what is loaded, AV is always last.

I am using an OEM version of the OS.
Does anyone have a suggestion to the sequence or is Vista a “load-and-go” OS?

Thanks,

Paul

What are you using Win95 for?

He is just asking how to reinstall, and he said he has done these steps since win95, will they still work.

Never did Vista so I don't know.

Xero,

Way back in the mid 90’s I had Win95 on my first “IBM” based PC (Dell Dimensions p200) that I purchased for my home. Previous to that, I had only used Apple’s (original Mac as well), Atari’s and a couple of machines using tape drives. None of that gear belonged to me so I could not tinker with the OS. Once I bought my own computer, it was not long until I had to learn how to reload the OS from the ground up. I do have an old IBM 300 in my basement that dual boots Win95 and an ancient copy of Redhat. Nothing quite as thrilling as partitioning and mounting two OS’s on a 1.2 GB HD.

I am in the habit of following a set procedure when I do a fresh reinstall of an OS but I lack experience with Vista. I am going to have to do it regardless so I may take some notes and post them later.

Oh ok, I see now. I got confused.

Well this is how I installed my Vista recently:

1-OS
2-SP1
3-Motherboard Drivers
4-Video Drivers
5-Software (anti-virus first, THEN ethernet drivers)
6-tweaks/customizations

Gracias, All.

I have made a master list of you ideas and will refer to them when I reload. Oddly enough, the random crashes have stopped. Using the nTune program I noticed that my memory settings were changed. The ratio and T settings were all discombobulated. The Bios settings were the same but the OC profile I created must have been corrupted.
