If buying a new 8800GT from major E-tailers now (Newegg, ZZF...), which Rev cooler is generally shipped now? I would really only want Rev2 but is it sort of a lottery now for which Revision you will get?

I would say if you use Newegg you will probably get Rev 2. They are a more popular e-retailer and probably sell a lot of 8800 GT's. So they get new ones all the time.

I have to agree with Goliath. THe bigger e-retailers probably go through more stock than others, and therefore would most likely have a greater turnover/sell rate...

95% chance you're going to get a rev. 2
Mine was a rev. 2 when I got it in January.

You will probably get a Rev. 2.

How much does sound effect you? The 8800GT stock cooler is quite loud, and a Duorb, or other aftermarket cooler might be a good idea.

Wrong. I just ordered and installed an XFX 8800 GT,PV-T88-YDE4, and it had the old two wire non-controllable fan. I'm sending it back.

What's the difference between rev1 and rev2? Just the cooler? Also, it seems to me that you would have more luck getting the rev2 on the more popular base models which tend to sell more imo.

I just bought the MSI 8800GT
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127329

I absolutely love it. It is very quiet and runs very cool. I might buy another one to run in SLI.

Thats a nice card, it looks like it is using a Zalman gpu cooler on it. Overall that pretty much the best card, runs cool.

With all the trouble everyones having with fan control on the XFX, this is a very nice alternative. Just $20AR more.
