I know many of you fold with the Windows SMP client so this is kind of a big deal. There are a number of significant changes in this version (5.92) and the installation is understandably complicated, so you might want to set aside some time to get it running smoothly. Additional the relevant information and directions for installing the client can be found in this folding forum post (http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1783&p=14926#p14926) so make sure you go there before you go and install the new one.

The new client is apparently much more stable and slightly faster. Two qualities we can all appreciate. You can also check this forum thread (http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1784) if you're having any issues, or just post them up here. Good luck and let me know if you have any issues with the install you can't resolve.

You don't necessarily need a quadcore to use the SMP client; your OC'd E6700 will do just fine.

Really? That's good news. I've been hesitant to try the SMP client because thier FAQ strongly suggests running it on a quad core and says that they have noticed some potential problems running it on 2-core boxes.

Maybe I'll let these last two WU's finish up and give the SMP client a shot cause a couple of you guys have come out of nowhere and are gaining on me fast.

Well the SMP version will give you much larger WU's instead of many small ones. Also there is only like 1-4 days to finish these WUs so make sure you fold a lot with you dual core if you decide to use it. These WUs are big but they do give you a lot of points for each, around 1600 points. :)

On a well clocked CoreDuo chip(2.7GHz on mine), a SMP WU can be completed in under two days. For you guys(null & raidersforever01), completing a SMP WU will be less than two days(I'm not really sure on the exact time frame but probably somewhere around ~36-40hrs).

On a quadcore Xeon(clocked at 2.0GHz) it took roughly ~24hrs to complete one SMP WU.

I can get them done in about 24hrs maybe a ittle less i was doing SMP before my ram started to put out errors.

Edit no wait nvm i dun know where i got tat number from but its takes me about 36 hours you were right. Now all i need is my ram it feels like crap running on 1 gig i didn't know how much 2 gigs made a difference.

I tried the SMP client. It's all messed up now.

So I left a message at the Folding Forum:

Error running mpiexec on XP (http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1825&sid=afda0a07bc5fab60bb584de88aa1ca2f#p15475)

After another lost work unit this morning, I decided to install the upgrade. It took a few tries but it seems to be working fine now.
