I have a chance to sell my 7900gs and get either a 8800 gs or 8800gts 320.
both are new, Im paying 130 for either one, And I think Im grabbing the gts 320.
Better memory bandwith, and better cooler, Im gonna tear it and mod it.
What do you guys think ???

Old GTS all the way.

Why not spend a bit more and go with a 9600GT as they are quite cheap?
If a 9600GT isn't doable then the 8800GTS 320MB is the way to go.

Defiantly old GTS it will fit very nicely into your system.

Plus you should be able to OC it like crazy. What is current Vram and monitor res?

yeah, I play on a 19 inch samsung widescreen, so I dont need too much horsepower.
They look like they OC good, I've been reading around.

That is a sweet fan; thermaltake TT-8025 brushless.

Yea its sweet but when it gets older it kinda gets noisy. Thats what i have on my Silent Tower right now. Id like to see how that mod was done though.
old GTS, the new GS's are loud effers, but some overclock nicely..
I guess its preference, performance wise you can get a GS pretty close to a GT with a good oc.

You can add Flops and Memory Bus?

EVGA one is actually pretty silent. It has new revision 2 8800gt reference cooler. 700rpm in windows and can be controlled with rivatuner or a bios flash.
I get 38fps @ 1440x900 high dx9. GTS 320 can't even get near that.
Not to mention you get all the bells and whistles of G92. Better TRMS image quality and HDCP support.

NE has a EVGA 8800GTS 320 for $144.
NE had EVGA 8800gs for $5 more.
Up until last week it was $140 shipped.

LOL, you just don't give up mrx.
Talk about not giving up. :eek2:
Why not buy something that performs better?
I brought all the proof in the other thread. I guess ignorance is bliss.

You are saying a 8800GS is better then a GTS now? Your ignorance knows no bounds.

It's exactly what I'm saying. Maybe Bjorn needs another mod here who knows what he's talking about. :icon_tiphat:
Go get the typical overclocked 8800gts and compare with a typical overclocked 8800gs.
I don't care how hard you overclock the GTS 320mb you will not get 38fps in crysis @ high settings @ 1280x1024 or widescreen equivalent 1440x900. :frown:
8800GTS
Core Clock: 500 MHz
Shader Clock: 1200 MHz
Memory Clock: 800 MHz (1600 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 64 GB/sec
FLOPS: 230.4 GFLOPS
Pixel Fill Rate: 10000 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 12000 MTexels/sec
8800GS
Core Clock: 550 MHz
Shader Clock: 1375 MHz
Memory Clock: 800 MHz (1600 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 38.4 GB/sec
FLOPS: 264 GFLOPS
Pixel Fill Rate: 6600 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 26400 MTexels/sec
8800gs is more powerful. :beerchug:
memory bandwidth doesn't dictate performance. It's core and SP. Bandwidth is good for AA or uber high resolutions which 8800gts 320 can't do because vram limitations. Now if we were talking about 8800gts 640 if would be a different scenario which it would do much better with AA.
What does 8800gts have over 8800gs? Pixel fillrate and memory bandwidth that is crippled by 320mb of vram. If pixel fillrate (single texture fillrate) determined performance than 8800gt would lose to G80GTS 640 but we know that's not true.
At least back up your ignorance instead of telling me it's better. :beerchug:

8800GS has half the memory bandwidth, you might as well cut all other numbers in half. That is like saying you have a QX9xxx with DDR2 533.
Perhaps you need to reread the other 8800gs thread. I've done tests to back up my claim and another fellow @ arsforum.
MEMORY BANDWIDTH ALONE DOESN'T DICTATE RAW PERFORMANCE!
memory bandwidth is good with Anti Aliasing or running in higher resolutions. 320mb is not good enough to run AA with high resolutions anyway.
Instead of talking nonsense perhaps you should do some tests of your own.

Which performs better?
E8400 with ddr 533 or E6600 with ddr 800?

Why do you have to keep insisting on repeating yourself? We all know about your opinion on the 8800GS so why do you have repeat everything you said from another thread.
:threadjacked:
"8800GS is better than this and it has more of this..." blah blah blah,

Okay then why are you jacking thread with that stupid picture? :coocoo:
This is a hardware site no? Or do we have idiots posting random pictures to be funny? :offtopic:
If you didn't care you wouldn't even have posted. :bawling:
Does this entire site consist of miker and werty316 who doesn't know what they're talking about?

MrX, as a new member, an aggressive attitude and/or insulting long standing members of our community (or anyone really) will get you nowhere fast... We all understand your opnion on the 8800GS, but to bash others with a different opinion until they agreee with you is not the best way to go...
btw, I'd go the for 880GTS 320 or 9600GT if the budget approves ;)

GS price/performance > most other cards.
evga GS can be had at newegg for ~110 usd after rebate.

So you are saying these XFX 8800GTs you could find for 160 after rebate is not better price/performance?

Thank you all for jacking my thread, really appreciated.
Miker with his afterschool ADD comments and mr X. Even werty, I'd thought you know when to stop......
close this, it aint useful, Mr admin please
PS thank you to theauthors 2 bits of advice I actually got, I just had to go through 3 pages of junk for this.
cant we make a bjorn3d for 18 & over ?

honestly, unless your doing realy big resolution gaming, a 8800GS is fine (exept for that ******* named Cysis.)
but evga GS for 110 after rebate, seems a much better deal to me, expecialy when you consider the topic of this thread.

Insulting? If these long standing members had some maturity or even knowledge. Oh wait they have no idea what they are talking about but insist using profanity or dumb pictures. :thanks:
How did I know you were going to recommend 8800gts 320, 9600gt over 8800gs. :???:

8800gs is also more powerful GPU than 8800gts 320mb or 9600gt. It might not have the bandwidth to play uber high resolutions with AA but if you are on a 19" monitor it is a perfect combination which the original poster has.
8800gs will outperform in the end.
If anything, that makes the GeForce 9600 GT look better than it actually is in our opinion, because, as has always been the case in the world of 3D graphics, the reliance on more complex shaders increases over time. It’s quite feasible, then, that the GeForce 8800 GT will extend its performance lead over the GeForce 9600 GT over time. The only question is by how much – and that’s something that is pretty hard to quantify.

Miker where can you get an XFX 8800gt for $160?
Btw, looks like MrX was looking to get banned...he should go over to hardforum if he wants to sling mud at users...they encourage it over there...
found a good deal, XFX 9600GT 512 for $111 after rebate.
