I'm in the market for some new headphones since I've managed to bust my second pair of Zalmans.
I need to find a good quality, sturdy set with true 5.1 surround sound. They also can't be USB headphones since I do use my headphones apart from my computer.
As long as they are strong, good bass, loud, and a good price tag I'll probably buy them. :thumleft:

Audiophile time...
5.1 in a headset is just a waste, a good set of regular Stereo headphones will do way better. Are you looking to use these as a replacement to a conventional home stereo, or just for gaming. Do they need to have a Mic?
If you want "loud" then just buy anything you find.
I will point you to Sennheiser @ http://www.sennheiserusa.com

I'm going to be using them for gaming and using them for music at night when I can't use my Logitech speakers. (Mom sleeps light) I also am going to be using them on the go at times.
A mic would be cool but not needed, if it has a mic it needs to be detachable. I'll look like a psycho walking around with a mic on my headphones. :coocoo:
I find that 5.1 makes it a whole lot easier to find your enemies in game. ;-)
I love the HD650 from where you linked me, but those are WAY out of my budget. :(

I agree with Miker, I was reluctant to jump into this thread as you say it's your 2nd pair of Zalmans, so obviously you're convinced 5.1 headphones are actually a good idea. Most whom have tried various good sounding headphones know otherwise though.
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD555s which are open back and have a wedge on the baffle that sends some of the sound behind the ear. This gives them a very spatial open sound that simulates surround very well in games and movies. They're also very comfortable with velour earcups and headband and cushions that surround rather than press your ears.
I paid about $80 for mine and they were worth every penny, they released at $150. Sennhesiers have a 2 yr warranty too and replaceable parts. The fact is with such tiny drivers and placement so close to your ears, the Zalman and other 5.1 type headphones don't really do any better job at surround than a good spatial stereo pair, and the sound quality is much worse.
BTW, I have tried the Zalmans and another brand that had much better bass, but didn't like either one of them. There's always going to be tradeoffs with any such product, especially if you plan to use them for music.

Take a look at the Over The Ear Headphones over on RazerZone.com I have the On Ear set and their pretty good and durable as all get out.
Over the ear would be more comfortable but I got mine free.

Ok guys, 5.1 aside what do you think about these?

Good deal or no? They're Turtle Beach and I think they have a good reputation.

5.1 means smaller speakers, more speakers thus less quality per a speaker.

I just ordered them. I like them because of the dedicated speaker for bass. I read a review on them and they looked pretty damn good to me. They were the best I could afford. All of the Sennheiser headphones that looked worth something were out of my budget. (makes sense)
I'll let you guys know how these sound. If they don't make me orgasm then I'll definitely pick up some good ol' stereo headphones after they break or I sell them. :beerchug:

Best Audiophile orgasm I ever had was a set of Magnepan 20.1s, with an Audio Research pre-amp, some $16,000 sub and a vinal player with a marble base.

i posted the news on the cyber snipa sonar (http://www.bjorn3d.com/viewnews.php?id=1877). I have no experience on it or seen any review on it but based on the info it looks like a nice pair of headset. Mmmh, maybe bjorn3d can get one for review.

Well I had a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card which had great sound, but never tried any of their headphones. I don't know if you read through the reviews on Newegg but many say they break easily. I also noticed comments about the 5.1 not being very noticeable in games. This is what I was talking about and why high end headphone manufacturers do not make 5.1 headphones. If it was a good idea you'd see lots of big name brands make them.
The problem with reviewing and asking about audio equipment is there are many levels of satisfaction and experience when it comes to sound, and thus you get quite a variety of opinions. Everyone has their own idea of what sounds good to them.

Yep, I think a good 2.1 set up is best, because it does sound the best. But so many people just want booms from all around.

The main concern with these headphones is the questionable durability. I've broken at least 14 headphones before this pair so it won't be anything new but I just might have to treat these nice.
With my Zalmans the 5.1 was noticeable but they were lacking in bass and were weakening anyway. Once the arm gave out on them, I knew it was time to sell them to some sucker and move on.

Try a set of Audio Technica they are very well priced and sound terrific. For around $100 a set of Ath AD700 will do wonders for your game. Own a pair and can't recommend them more.
