View Full Version : Looking for others with XP2-8500 mem. (black)
Hi, im new here, obviously its becouse someone posted a link to the 790i giveaway (LOL.)
But anywhooo...
I got a pair of 2x1GB XP2's that dont wana go higher then about ~900 mhz. 450) So, right now I got em at DDR2-830 4-3-3-8, (best ratio for a Q6600.) but for the life of me, even upping the voltate to 2.2 and going 5-5-5-15 on the timings wont get the bastards any higher then 910 or so. And I realy hate going 2.3 or above. on my dimms. However, when I run it asynchronus to the fsb. they go up to 1000 6-5-6-15. easily.
Any idears?

Sounds like your CPU overlock is holding back your memories overclock when running 1:1...
Sounds like your CPU overlock is holding back your memories overclock when running 1:1...
right, its not my cpu, i can run it upwards of 3.5 using wintec ampo DDR2-667 (at some ridiculus ratio and 2.2v on the ram..)
And the ram overclocks when its not synched in with the fsb...
i just gave myself an idea.
h/o about 2-3 hours before posting...unless you've had the same problem.

This is what I am reading:
DDR2-910 with 5-5-5-15 timings.
DDR2-1000 with 6-5-6-15 timings.
Based on the above, have you tried 6-5-6-15 timings when running a 1:1 ratio?
yea, it just wont run above ~900 when linked, no matter what timings i put it in.
When i unlink it and run asynch, i can oc the q6600 to 3.5 or so, and the memory to ~1000, but based on the few benchmarks and testing with a few apps, i loose a bit of performance (odd... I know, but thats my dumb bad luck).
I dont want to email mushkin till im absultly sure its their ram, and not my motherboard (which is the next phase of testing when i bring in a differnt cpu and some other dimms.)
I just dont want to spend all year on these XP2's and not be able to go anywere I want with them.

How much performance? If its not noticeable, and its probably not, why not just use an async FSB:memory ratio?
couse im trying to get 3.3-3.5 linked with a good ratio... I just cant...
and by performance deficit, i mean it added almost 1 minute to a 40 second photoshop task, and it crashed durring a virtulized win98. Its an odd problem.
Temps are fine, I realy wont know till the weekend if its my board maybe or the ram or cpu.
On another note, I did try 2.3v last night, and managed to get up to ~3200 linked, but i had to go 4-5-5-15 timings to do so.
man I feel stupid.
I was double-checking my bios and I stumbled across something I normaly dont touch with DDR2. "Command Rate"
It was set too 1T. So i set it to 2T and most of my problems are gone!

Man I wish my problem with these sticks was that simple, ive gone threw alteast 4 sticks of this stuff trying to run them at there rated specs :frown:
finally moved to some OCZ reapers and haven't had an issue since.:frown:
most likely it was your motherboard and not the dimms.

Could be, Personally i think the mushkin dimms just couldn't handle the volatge they had been rated for with the cooling system they ship with alone.
Only thing keeping these OCZ alive is the lower volatge I am running them at 1.8 - 1.9v as opposed to the 2.2 - 2.35 I ran the mushkins at.
right, im 80%+21% positive its your motherboard.

cool, never knew you were a psychic, so when am I gonna get my 9800gtx? tonight or tomoro? Or why 2 different matched sets each from diff. manufacturers have never had an issue??
yea.
your motherboard is at fault.

Cool how you know that without any details at all eh, high voltage is to fault. Good thing the warranty covers that range.

what happens when you try to run OCZ at 2.2-2.35?
Exactly what motherboard aare you using?

EVGA 680i A1, The OCZ aint rated for those volts! lol only up to 2.2 on them. They would do it for a short period im sure, the mushkins did for over 4 months each.

Partially.
Ok, so far from what you've said, I have concluded that your experience and knowledge of computers is about zero.
Please, return everthing you have brought, go to best buy and overpay a few hundred bucks for a celeron d machine.

Well that one went right over your head. The spelling was just an addition. And I'm glad that you can admit to laziness, I doubt that it stops with the internet.
you took out the "not".
I am arogant, im not stupid though. He is.

Hey joz, Is this you? or did you just steal your name from this cute asian blogger??
jozjozjoz is an asian american gal who lives and blogs underneath the hollywood sign and who doesn’t clean her fishtank unless the fish starts to do the backstroke. she is also able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but cannot stop from bumping into door handles, cabinet doors, and anything else that protrudes or has a sharp edge. she does not run with scissors for this same reason.

That is not me, and i have had the name joz, long before "jozjozjoz" ever poped up on google.
Go back about 7-8 years and google Joz.=just me on a few sites. (or, about how long Diablo II has been out.)
and shes a fat asian attention whore.

I cannot comment on the ocz ram.
But the 680i was a known ram killer with earlier boards that had the problem to the point, evga forums were posts about it hourly. joz isn't physic.
I've seen many xp2-8500's live with 2.3v and a fan and never die on intel chipset boards.
I've run my kit of xp2-8500's , 4 months with 2.25v on a p965 board and no active cooling
I had a 680i board myself, and another kit of xp2-8500's
Was this all everything was about? :offtopic:

Im not even sure thats what it was about, or if it was ever about anything other then joz being psychic! :dielaffin: So is my ticket still active? should I open a thread for that topic?

Oh whatever ! I was switched to a 680i SLI as my first ASUS 650i "wasn't compatible" because of a mushkin reccomendation... let me have a look for that email.
No hard feelings joz, this situation has just sucked.

Yes, the 650i's have alot of trouble getting 1066Mhz to work at all (some running 4 sticks on 650i's can't get higher then 667mhz stable)
The evga 680i was, the best choice until recently, when asus striker bios was updated and now its the best 600 series board imho.
But as with all 680i chipsets, using over 2.1v is risking ram death, I would never use even 2.1v myself on a 680i board.
At the time, there was no 780i, and for sli, your choices are small.
Its why I went crossfire,
I highly recommend any intel chipset board using these chipsets, p965, p35, x38, x48, p45, when using overclocking ram. (As I likely recommended then)

Yea, I think i may be moving to an intel chipset soon. Plus if i ever get this ram out I wont need to run such high voltages threw it:-D
