In an effort to understand our community better I would like to know what operating system you use your Folding Clients on? Hopefully this will offer some insight on which sections of the Folding FAQ should be modified and expanded. If you use more then one operating systems you can choose more then one option in the poll. For all those who chose other, please let us know which other operating system you are referring to.

I realize that many of you don't fold at all, but please still pick which operating system (or systems) you would most likely fold on. This way I can get an accurate headcount on our team's potential along with what aspects should be more heavily stressed. Many of our potential team members have had trouble setting up their Folding clients correctly or have become too frustrated to try at all. With any luck with along with many other less direct surveys can help to alleviate these issues.

Thank you for your Cooperation

Sincerely,
ZhengHe
(Folding @ Home Team Leader)

Windows and Mac OS X

Based on the stats over at Standord's F@H website, Windows dominates the percentage of OSs that are used for folding.

I use Windows XP Pro. I tried Ubuntu on my AMD rig, but had some problems with it.

What kind of problems did you have. I've just started using Ubuntu and should be starting to configure it for Folding soon. Perhaps I could help you out.

Work units crapping out like there was no tomorrow. Tried the diskless approach and only managed to complete 1 out of 3 work units. I couldn't get samba shares working even though they were properly configured. My Windows machine could not see them.

I formatted and installed Vista x64 on it and the ppd under Fahmon dropped from 1335(diskless) down to 950(Vista). So much for it being faster on a 64bit OS.

Does anyone know when the 32bit version of the Linux SMP client is coming out. I might just have to reinstall with a 64 bit version unless the release date is fairly soon.

I don't think nobody hardly uses mac osx for main purpose since Geforce cards are not meant to be for them

I fold on my gaming rig, which is the only rig that can really fold, and it uses Windows Vista 32-bit (no SP1).

I folded a few times with my old laptop, which uses Windows XP Pro, when my gaming rig was unoperational.

The operating system I use for folding at home is my better half, I ignore it until she folds it works pretty good except during times of heavy loads when the operating system seems to bog down.
