Over the last several weeks I have puzzling over the limited, but complex issue of picking of mascot for the Folding team. Although many distributed computing teams have used their mascots to great success there is no hard and fast rule for implementing one. While many of the top Folding teams have used mascots either directly (http://arstechnica.com/etc/dcteams/dc_teams.html) or through subteams (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=381163) it is a limited trend at best. There is also the question of what ultimate benefits a mascot would have on our team: What could the mascot actually be? How should the mascot be chosen? Which factors should determine that choice? What would be it applied to if implemented? Do we even need a team mascot?
All these are important points to keep in mind. There are many others, but in the end it is a question of what our team wants. So I leave the debate up to you. If you think we should have a mascot what would you want it do be? Give some examples of a mascot we could use along with how it might be successfully integrated into our larger team framework? Perhaps you have a sketch of the mascot or idea as to how it could be added to a team signature. Either way what do you think?
