anybody know geexbox?
ita small no-nonsense linux-based media-player os. You boot from the live cd, it loads to ram and spits out the CD. From the menu, you can find your network shares and watch a movie\show or music. Even streaming media. All this on a computer without a hard drive. Burned the iso to a cd last night, tried on a few rigs here, its light, easy and it just works, strongly recommend.
I been trying to make a diskless media pc and I believe this is it !

Does it run fast even from CD? I would copy it to HDD just so it runs faster and makes less noise.

dude, you boot from the cd, and after its loaded, it pops out the cd. NO HDD !!!
It loads into your RAM
takes 30 seconds to load on a p3 with 512 meg pc133.
Detects video, sound, network. (Tonight I'm gonna try wireless)
NO NOISE, NO NOISE and NO NOISE.
Think mini or micro-atx and a small power supply.
network works, I watch my shows from my fileserver. Only thing that heats is the p3 866 and the psu. And I'm taking that shark 200w psu appart tonight !
Yeah I'll be real careful, but I live with a guy who is webmaster at city hall, and he just so happens to have a degree in electronics. He MAKES his own pcb's !
I'm pretty confident he will save me from electrocution. And I'm working on the p3 also. I'm working on a small case with minimum noise. Maybe open psu for better cooling. I mean frameless psu. I hope to have just one 120mm fan around 800 rpm cooling it all. With logical airflow management and smart placing of hot objects I'm sure it can be done.

EDIT

I forgot the best part, .....

ITS FREE

You can also dowload the builder and incorporate you codecs and whatever, and build your own iso.
