:O help me PLZ

I have a computer that has been put together about 2 days ago now and I've had the screen have about a 2 or a 3 inch tall strip of purple and off color pixels acrossed the screen right in the middle of just surfing the internet and listening to my windows media player; i am using the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT and i believe i have the most up to date drivers on it. "169.32" is what i have currently and the driver they have for it is "169.21". So please if you have any sugjestions please tell me :) thanks for your time.

What OS are you running I'm not 100% on this but I run the 169.32 drivers and if you get them from nvidia the only card they have listed for those drivers to support are the 8800GS which is what I have...I believe the newest drivers they list for the 8800GT are 169.21 so I would try those the 169.32 were specific to the 8800GS.

my computer also freezes and the pc specs are i got antec 900 case, 8800gt
2 gigs of ram. and i got a 500 wat power supply antec 2 12volt rails intel core 2 duo e6750 2.66

max load 24a 24a 22a 22a 0.8a 2.5A

freind told me it could be ecause of the power supply low power causing it to mess up and freeze

Which antec PS do you have model # if you can, but if your specs are right that one should be enough for what u have there while a higher PS is always better, you can get away with the minimum.

Couple more questions who put the PC 2gether? Also make sure everything is plugged in properly drives, board, video card, make sure the video card, ram, cpu, are inserted all the way in properly. Also what board are you running, intel chip, nvidia chip, Hopefully not a Via chip as those have known issues with 8800GT's.

Well all the 500w PS's i pull up on Antecs site only have 17a on each +12v rail which combined is only about 27amps total on ur 500w is max power 408w so that may possibly be your problem with that Video card and your Cpu not sure what else ur running. While it says you can run a 8800gt on a 22amp rail at minimum you still have to take into account the rest of the system and how much power it will draw also.

Also one thing to try does your MB have onboard video if so try that out without the Gt installed see if that works properly, If so then test the card on another machine if you can, If the onboard works then it could be just PS not enough power or you could have possibly gotten a bad 8800GT.

Actually, it sounds like the same kind of picture I got when I tried to run SLI 7900GT's without enough power...

Ok no onboard so cant check it that way, Ok anyway to check the 8800gt on another machine?? Also It sounds like the PS it is from looking at the specs a little low on power.
But I would test the 8800gt if possible just to be sure...Also make sure the GT is in the first PCI-Express slot I'm sure it is as long as ur friend knows what hes doing but always a chance he could have accidentally put it in the second slot. Most times this doesn't matter but some boards (MSI) run lower speeds on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, slots etc. Thats why they are there for SLI mainly.

One more thing assuming ur friend knows what hes doing he did install all the MB drivers as they control your pci-e slots also as well as NB-SB.

One more thing I should have asked already ur friend built it did he install the OS and all the software or did you? If he did then did it do this when he installed everything? If not then I'd go back and change the driver to 169.21...Like i said before. If it did this right from the beggining then it's either the PS underpowered or the 8800gt is faulty.

Yeah, but I've actually done it, lol. I knew right away what it was though, cause I was almost positive that it wouldn't work as I was hooking it up.
