This April I am giving away a Tagan IcyBox IB-NAS4220-B. You can read all about it here (http://www.tagan.com/index.php?c_id=37&products_id=185&p_cata_id=112).
This will be a drawing out of the hat.
1. You must do at least 5 work units in the month of April for the Bjorn3D Folding Team to be have your name put in the hat.
2. Must have a USA/Canada mail address.
Good Luck

Gentlemen, start your folding engines!
I think that's a pretty sweet prize actually, if I win it I can stuff my spare HD's in it and refocus one of my servers into a diskless, silent folding machine. :)

Offcourse, I love Bj3d but my CPU runs 80C idle & 90C load. So,it's a little bit problem for me to continue folding 24x7.I need a good CPU ( atleast a cheapest C2D ) for that. ;)

Forgot to mention i'm seriously ill from several months & i had to resign from my job due to the health deterioration. :(
I'll try to start folding in a few days but i have fears in mind that it may end up with a fried CPU if i run F@H 24x7.But, i'll start folding again in a few days. :)

I'm in too. I'm already at 3, I've got one at 94% and I don't know what the SMP WU is at back home, but its still working!

04-04-2008, 09:07 PM
Yep, same here.. Ive already got 2 WU's done this month and my 3rd will be done in an hour or two.. so 5 is no big deal. Hopefully i can get 15 :P

04-04-2008, 09:13 PM
I've done 345 in 90 days, so you should be able to pull 15 without too much trouble.

I might be able to add a $50 Amazon.com giftcard to this. Need to see to whether or not it can be applied to anyone though.

You do have a quad core and I dont.. i only got 14 WU's finished last month but i was still working out some bugs. I should hit 15 with no problem

04-04-2008, 09:30 PM
That's true too. I actually output fewer WU's now, but get more points, thanks to the SMP core. I was turning out 4 a day just from the quad, plus my laptop, kids computer, and PS3. Now it's just the quad and the laptop.

Once I get a friends X1600pro 256mb I plan on folding like crazy. Lately though I have been using my processor for video encoding.
Does the X1600pro do a good job at folding?

I think I'll pass this one.
Since I just started a new job, I don't think I can already start folding on my Desktop PC at work and I can't fold right now on my Desktop at home, as my wife works on it most of the day...:frown:
Hopefully later on I'll be able to keep folding, at least from home...
Anyway, GOOD LUCK to those who take part!!! :icon_tiphat:

Nitpick: Tagan's website says 'Gigabit ethernet' but also 'Gigabit 10/100'
10/100 is 10 or 100 megabit.
Gigabit is 1000.
Gigabit/100/10 or 10/100/Gigabit or 10/100/1000 would make sense.
I'm too lazy to ***** about it in more than one place though.

So for this contest, would it be more beneficial to use two CPU clients instead of using the SMP client? That way 2 WUs can be completed instead one one?
Also is it even worth throwing a Pentium 4 1.5GHz into the match or no?

Don't know why I did not notice this...:coffee: I'm in as well. Could use this for an FTP server.

Also is it even worth throwing a Pentium 4 1.5GHz into the match or no?Look at the big picture, more CPUs folding for your name meansing more score in the long run. Whether its a month or not.

Don't feel bad, I had never heard of it until I joined bjorn3d a few months back. There's a sub-forum dedicated to it, check it out and you'll find the answers you're looking for.

Now I can finally get back to folding at night! Just got my X1600 pro in the mail today.
One question, what is better, overclocking the GPU or memory to get more PPD?
werty316
04-11-2008, 10:49 PM
You'll benefit more from oveclocking the GPU.

I have a question though, what if my dad's computer sucks and is unable to do 5 work units in a month... He is not likely to buy a new video card for any reason at all so yeah.
Fyi, I have an Ati X1300 card and a 2.4Ghz dual core AMD processor.

Oh and 2 GB of ram...

If you can't do 5 WU's in a month, then you can't enter the folding contest. You're still eligible for the other monthly contest, as it only requires a few forum posts.
DemonicDerek
04-15-2008, 05:32 AM
Dangit!, well that sucks!... uh, hmm maybe if I leave the computer on all month I might make it next month...
wait, could I possibly start on Next month's WU's (since my comp sucks so bad).
As in the 1 WU I have acquired goes towards next months compeition (if one is to exist) and etc.

You should have no problem doing 5 WU's in a month on a 2.4Ghz dual core AMD machine. I was doing far more than that on my old 3700+ (2.2ghz) single core. ;)

I finally got around to cranking up my folding farm. :) Hope i'm not too late to make the 5, but just to make sure I'll open the windows so my computers don't throttle down form overheating :)

Does anyone know how many people are currently eligible for this contest. I bet at approximately 20, assuming the majority live in the US or Canada and are aware of this contest.

Too bad I had to RMA my ram, my main system is out until sometime next week.
Right now I am stuck on a P4 1.3GHz with a Geforce 2. Not even worth folding with because I will get my ram before I can even fold 1 WU.......

Same here Coolzone.I've never stopped folding for Bj3d since when i've learnt about it but i'm not being able to keep my machine stable while running F@H at 100C. :( I wish if i could contribute to the Zhenghe's team & for Bj3d.
