Fresh off of Reuters. Apparently, Vista popularity or lack of there of is speeding the up the release of Windows 7. Yes, Bill Gates himself said Windows 7 due in 2009 after only 3years since Vista's release.

Really??? :jawdrop: I wonder if this is real. But anyhow, even if it's real, I'm pretty sure it'll get delayed over and over like Vista did and we'll see it only in 2-3 years from now. Now, the questions is, will Vista survive that long???

The rushed Vista, it sucked, the rush Vista-2, it will suck.
Will DX11 be better then 9?

According to the info I'm getting from my vendors yes Windows 7 is slated for release in 2009.
Might be delayed, I've known for some time now and been advising customers to skip Vista and wait as I feel Vista is going to be the new Windows ME.
I keep it dual boot for customer support, but when reliability counts it's XP every time.

The rushed Vista, it sucked, the rush Vista-2, it will suck. This isnt a Vista2 this is a new OS like XP was the 98se. Vista = ME. Vienna has been slated for 2009 since Vista came out making Vista the crap bang up job like ME.
In other words M$ pulled an Nvidia and used a rebadged OS.

I started out not liking Vista because of the pain in the ars it was related to old software. However, since getting my laptop with Ultimate 64 installed, I've come to like it. Once you configured it to not be so obnoxious, it becomes quite usable as a "user's" operating system.
Since it's on my laptop, I haven't tried gaming with it. I only use it for coding, surfing and graphics work. It works great for these tasks.
We'll see what they do with the next version. I am curious to see what direction they head this time around.

Try gaming with it on your main rig. Im sure you wont find the performance so user friendly unless you have a nice 8800 and 4gig of ram.

I've got a nice 8800GT, but only 2 GB of ram. Haven't had any trouble gaming though.

When I gather the funds to build my next system, I will be installing Vista Ultimate 64 on it. I know from all of the reviews that it performs slower than XP SP2. I'm not too worried about it. I've never been one to need the fastest PC. ;)
As for my main system, I have no desire to install a new OS on it. Hell, I haven't even touched it for at least 2 weeks. Gaming isn't my primary use of a PC these days. No one has made a game that has made say "I need to have it" in quite some time. I do like Crysis, so my next system will be built targeting making that game more playable. But I'm in no rush.

From the article, it says that the operating system is going to support touch. Now they are pulling off touch screen companies..instead of nvidia :)

I game with it on my second rig and it has HD2600XT, 1gb DDR400 DC, 3600+X2 @ 2ghz, I havent had any problems with it use it on my main rig also, Guess I just got lucky and knew how to install it.

I don't know why you're soooo against Vista. I also started with dis-liking Vista, but now after having it for more than nine months, I can definitely say I'm pretty satisfied with it. Of course, it still has its flaws and yeah, it's a bit heavier and slower than XP, but if one has a strong configuration, Vista should run more than fine on it...;-)

IF you have a nice rig it will be fine. I help a lot of people with computer problems in our dorm, and i swear that some of the Vista *capable* laptops run as slow as my old 700mhz + 256mb PC with XP on them. They are just terrible, some more ram would definitely help. I don't know who to blame laptop vendors or MS for forcing vista down everyones throats.
On the other side i don't even own a powerful dx10 card, so xp is still better for me. I will definitely skip vista and wait for the next OS.

Yeah, that's why I said, one should be pretty satisfied with Vista, once he has a "strong" rig, meaning he has a DirectX 10 Video Card and AT LEAST 2GB of RAM and of course, 4GB is recommended (and did I mention a strong CPU as well? :-))

Lol Zachig of course you run it fine just like Scott and a few others. Like i said good 8800 series graphics card and 4gig of ram (Thats more important actualy) and youll be fine. Vista is just a huge ram hog and i hate that.
On my X2 5600+ and OCed 7950GT and 2gig DDR2 800 it was pretty sluggish and that was with a heavily modified copy. Im just sticking with XP unless i actualy do run across a DX10 card then ill use x64 Ultimate. Until then its Vienna FTW (hopefully)

I guess you're right. I can understand why you hate Vista and I agree with you that Vista is just not for everyone and this is one of its BIGGEST flaws...:frown:

My laptop runs with 3GB of 800 MHz RAM and a T7500 2.2GHz dual core. It compiles code and loads apps faster than my P4 3.6GHz with 3GB or 533MHz RAM running XP SP2. ;)
I think most of the issues with Vista come from running on older hardware with weak drivers. My thoughts are that vendors creating new hardware are developing better Vista drivers than they did for their already existing hardware when Vista was initially released. This is just my opinion.
However, I do still believe that Vista is slower than XP. Unfortunately, XP will fall off of the map as we move forward. Win2K is finally dropping off, and is only a year or two older, so I suspect XP will follow suit within the next two years.
When MS releases their next Windows incarnation, it will only push XP out that much faster, and I suspect we will be saying that Vista is so much faster/better than it. That's just the way things are. ;)

I got my Vista tricked out and customized so it runs flawlessly for me.
The only problem I've had with Vista is bad video drivers but the 17x series more then makes up for it.
I actually get a higher cpu score in 3dmark06 with Vista instead of XP.
Bill Gates is retired so I don't think this is new news.

I don't get all this hatred of Vista.
It runs infinity better than XP, especially with SP 1 (CPU utilization was 1-%, now its 2-3% , ie same as XP)
The RAM issue is just dynamic scaling, 1 gig will run Vista with Aero and prettyness with integrated video just fine.
Performance is virtually identical with XP as of around the release of the 9600GT's.
Sooo much more stable than XP.
Well, I suppose to each his own.

I "feels" complete, no real crashes (unlike XP), much faster. Plus installing it was most certainly the easiest I have ever done. Ohh and WHQL actually means something, if Nvidia makes a new chipset driver for example, they hand it off to Microsoft, who then gives me the option to download it through windows update (which is now a core app instead of a web site).
Not to mention that its 64 bit, so some games get impressive bonus', though on the whole it is the same, with one nice difference. 90% of remote attacks cannot be done, plus I can have eXecute Disable bit, ie reducing the likely hood of buffer overflow attacks at the CPU level.
I am going back to XP for a week or two, and will report back on my experiences with it.

If Windows 7 is going to support touch applications that would mean people would need new hardware along with extra RAM and HDD space. If you think Vista is a resource hog then this next pile will surely cripple our systems that much more.

Touch apps aren't that demanding.
There are a ton of rumors flying now about Windows 7, slimed down Vista, Subscription based, modular, etc...
Try using Vista some time, it really doesn't take much to run it, especially once SP 1 is installed. 1gb or RAM is fine for a basic system. Plus alot of the bloat, and size is due to required support for legacy things, just like with x86 processors, trim out the old crap and it would be much better.

Going to be having a dual boot on the new rig that is being done at this moment. Still waiting on some parts and on some people. Will be using XP Pro and Vista 64 Ultimate.
