View Full Version : Alexa toolbar?
I just thought of an awesome idea that will eventually help Bjorn3d make more money in advertising. All you guys (users) have to do is download and install the Alexa toolbar. This will eventually boost the websites Alexa ranking which in return will make Scott's pocket bigger. It costs you guys nothing and will help the site greatly.
For those that don't already have it installed, heres the link.

If you run Vista, here's a FF add-on.

I hope this idea wasn't already brought up so I don't sound like a retard lol.:dielaffin:
Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys run the Alexa toolbar?
I just noticed that the site has a steady ranking of about 48,000 worldwide which is very respectable. That means a decent majority of you already run the toolbar. Or it could be the guests visiting.....
I take it nobody gives a damn. :dielaffin:

I actually wished people would use it. You would not believe the amount of vendors that look at that silly ranking and will not send us stuff to review or not buy ads from me. They say your ranking is to low and has to be in the 20,000 before we will deal with you.
Makes me sick.

Why won't it work in Vista?

I feel your pain. I have a couple sites that recieve a decent amount of organic traffic but the majority of my visitors don't run the toolbar. Hence, no decent company will sell me ads.
Maybe you should make some kind of sticky in the forums explaining how you could help Bjorn by just installing this toolbar. Explain what the toolbar and Alexa are and what effects it has on advertising.
I'm pretty sure if each and every one of us active members here ran the toolbar you will boost your ranking to meet your quota. It's a very effective and feasible plan. People listen to you Scott. ;)
Why won't it work in Vista?
Compatability issues. They're supposedly working on it but it's been months and nothing has happened.

Oddly, I just clicked on the related links button it stuck at the top of FF, and bjorn3d.pricegrabber.com was on there. Its ranked at 1,525.

It's unfortunate that they base whether or not they well send us hardware on an Alexa rating, but I can kind of see where they're coming from. Alexa is the largest consolidated Web statistics and ranking company around, save for a few search engines which provide decidedly less features and options. To that end it is one of the few obvious measures that a company can use to determine where sending their products will achieve the greatest affect.
Of course the situation is more complicated then that, but for a company who is likely to send their hardware out to hundreds of other sites and vendors it provides an easy alternative to somewhat more in depth analysis that would otherwise provide a more accurate picture. After all if you compare Google to Alexa rank they are often completely at odds. Add in a few other stat sites and you get a very different picture, but many companies rather not spend the time doing would may only add to more confusion.
To that end end if they want to use Alexa to determine who to send products too find. The way I see it our community participation alone should bring up the traffic rank considerably and we are certainly capable of 20,000. So if they want to play ball fine. We'll give them what they want. We'll give them hell!
