Hello,

I am having a problem that manifests itself in checkerboard artifacts, then lines, then black screen lockups. I was doing a bit of overclocking on my Q6600 on my XFX 680i LT (3.2 Ghz) and I was running 3DMark05 at the time and that's when my problem occurred for the first time. Video card is HIS 3870 IceQ turbo. Now I can't run 3DMark05 at all without it crashing even at 3.0 Ghz. I've reinstalled my Omega drivers, but the problem persists.

I want to underclock the HIS card and test again to see if it improves. I understand that this would tell me if the card is pooched. Does this sound like a good idea and what program can I underclock with? Ati Tray Tools will only overclock.

Almost sounds like a PSU problem.

But first off, try it with the ATI drivers from ATI's site.

You can try RivaTuner to try underclocking. not sure if it will though.

Try running 3dmark05 with everything set to stock.

What temperature does your vidoe card show?

Thanks for responding guys!

I installed the ATI drivers with CCC and I was able to slow down the GPU with that, but I still got crashes.

My power suppy is 600 watt Ultra and 2 programs report 11.8 volts.

My take on this was that the video card was the source, so I went out and bought a HD 3650 test card (less than 100 bucks). After installation my system was noticeably slower but no more artifacts or crashes.

So the 4 month old HIS card is ill. I'll contact HIS customer service.

Thanks again!

Might be a bad PSU.

Just be sure it's not a borderline unstable CPU overclock... ya made sure to test at stock system settings right? ;)

Hi Kouger,

Ya, I thought about that too. I did try to slow the system down a bit, but I still got video corruption. In fact it has been getting progressively worse.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Good luck with that.

I sent out two emails. One to HIS and one to NCIX.

I got replies from both and NCIX gave me an RMA number. So it's already gone to NCIX. I'll follow up here later.

Hi again,

Just a follow up on my problem. I RMAed the video card back to NCIX where I bought it. Two weeks later I have a replacement. All is well.

Thanks NCIX! Good service!
