View Full Version : Working on Website Speed Issue

Bjorn is working on the speed issue tonight. It is not the server it self since WebHost Manager responds quickly. So something that runs the site itself is having an issue.
We will keep you informed.

Thanks Scott. I was wondering why it was taking so long to load up the forum.

I dunno I just did a recent topic search and got 1-65 hits, took .02 seconds and the pages are loading in a blink.
Maybe I just cruise through often enough that a lot of the Forum is stored in the cache but I'm not seeing the slow down.

It seems like whenever the site loads fast for me, all of a sudden everbody else complains about the site loading slow for them. I remember a week or so back I posted about the problem and nobody had issues but me. Is there some logical explanation for that?
I'm loading the site just fine right now. :-?

Fast for me to now, he said he was going home to work on it so maybe he found the bug. We have to remember he is 7 hours ahead of us at least.

I bet it will fluctuate until he figures out exactly what is wrong, which should account for why some report it loading fast while others see a noticeable lag. Just testing things out to figure out exactly whats up and what things needs to be changed or fixed to make sure this doesn't happen again. I just got a Database error a few seconds ago and then it went away, which goes along with that idea. He's probably making changes right now.

the site did slows down lasst night. I am not sure what's wrong with it, maybe someon is targeting us. Hopefully, Bjorn can find the culprit soon.

Can't imagine who would want to target us, but there are a lot of sick people out there. Bjorn wouldn't happen to be a secret agent would he?

It just now took my 5 seconds to load this response box. That's considered fast for my internet.

It was slow for me this morning, then I checked back a while later and saw the forum was off line and being upgraded. It's much quicker now.

Yep, I've noticed yesterday that the forum was way too slowly and it was taking likes ages for pages to load.
But...it seems that it's OK now and pages load much faster.

This time it was called "3DMark Vantage". We got absolutely hammered with requests and had to remove ourselves from the mirror-list for a while.
Our dear friends the chinese bots are also back again.
We've limited the direct linking so that you cannot download a file directly and have to go through the forum but that hasn't stopped them from trying meaning that even though we've increased the available connections for Apache it just does not have time to release them.
I've moved the 3Dmark Vantage file to our ftp instead where we have connection limits so hopefully it will settle down a bit again.

What is the point of these attacks? What do they think they can accomplish?

I have also been noticing there seems to be remnants of the old verion of VB still around.... Or what the heck is up with things?? some times picture open in the new fashion other times the open the way the used too. same with clicking on someones name, Used to be a drop down menu now its strait to the profile, yet sometimes i am gettin the drop down anyways.
Don't always assume they are chines either...
I personally know the guy who stumbled on the last exploit for Vb that gave you admin rights...
Heck I think that exploit from a canadian was the reason Vb released this new version...
