You know, I bought a pirated copy of Halo2 for PC while I was deployed and it had the directx10 files on the disk, but I didn't have Vista installed yet, so I tried to get it running without Vista and installed Directx10 on my laptop install of XP MCE with no issues at all.

hmm I would love to see if that actually works because if it does I cant wait to play assassins creed on dx10.

Well if i had a DX10 card id tell you if it worked. But XP shows its DX10 and all my games still work with no problem.
I already provided a download link.

I got it downloaded but I'm redoing the desktop today with a DDR2/DDR3 board so I got it downloaded onto the laptop for later testing.

It says that it works for some people and others can't play games after the install so set a restore point, and do a backup before you try it if you can.

Looks like things a looking up a little for AMD here. Assasin's Creed looks to be the first game supporting DX10.1 with a 20% performance boost for for AMD 3XXX cards under Vista SP1. I just thought that would be pretty significant cause AMD needs all the help it can get.

AMD doesnt need all the help it can get the company is in fine condition with the release of the new X4 quads, and the X2's still the best dual cores out there. This is the first game that i can remember that actualy gets a performance boost with a ATI card. Usealy its Nvidia. :(

The X2s are NOT the best dual core out there, the Core2Duo is. And it gets a boost in performance im guessing becasue of DX10.1. I dont see how but whatever.

Also, i have this installed and im not getting any problems at all.

I still think the X2's are the best but its a opinion. Performance wise a Core 2 probably does beat the X2 but i feel the X2 is better built.

But your also not running DX10 games.

I checked on some other forums, and apparently that "hack" is not new and the consensus is that it doesn't work.

PP Mguire

The Core2s are better all around. Thats why they are so popular. You cant OC an X2 as high, you cant get as much performance out of them, and im pretty sure the Core2s can take alot more volts and heat than an X2 can. Thats, all coming from a huge AMD fanboy. If i OCed my gfs e6300 to 2.8 like i have my X2 hers would run circles around mine.

And yea, thats why i said idk if its just a "hack" to make dxdiag say DX10 or if it really works. Waiting on somebody to test it.

There is no way DX10 can run on a DX9 card... It is like running DX9 on a DX7 card.

Goliath182
04-18-2008, 11:46 PM
umm Miker would you call a 8800 GT DX 10? =P

PP Mguire

Goliath182
04-19-2008, 12:13 AM
Any suggestions? There are still some DX9 files in here should i try deleting them?

PP Mguire
04-19-2008, 12:14 AM
No dont delete anything. Your probably one that cant get it to work. Then again i havent really been looking around to see if anybody has gotten it to work. Just that games detect their stuff as DX10 now in XP.

All this hassle... can't believe I just read four pages of it too.

Install Vista FFS.

Goliath182
04-19-2008, 12:17 AM
Im probably gonna get Vista this weekend anyways so i guess it wont matter to me anymore.

Are there screenies of the people playing games? i noticed that all the screenies in these files where just the pc saying it had DX10, but that could easily be done with just a few tweaks to DX9 to get it to display it as being DX10.

Good. I'll post a guide later for you to trim it down with.

Do get 64bit.

Yes i know lol. I have 8 gigs of RAM in this now and can only use 2.5. >.<

I probably wont mess with it sence i have twin dual cores lol. I could care less if Vista runs on one of my cores.

04-19-2008, 12:26 AM
Wait wait, are those Xeons 64bit?

Goliath182

PP Mguire

Idk if there are any screenies and idk if that other guy got it to work or not. Ive kinda been busy all day packing stuff.
