Geez that's an expensive one. Why Skullrail though? Wanting a massive folder?

First off, you should get PC2-8500 because it doesn't look like you have a budget. Also, you should think about water cooling on that thing!

My biggest question is the 8GB memory with 32bit XP Pro. You know better...

See the word "Dream" as in I will never get it. Also, DDR2 800 is the highest supported. And if you look, it is dual 20inchers

I know how you can get it really cheap! Wait about 5 years, then buy that stuff.

Why not? Dreams can also come true! Happened to me. Not with a computer but I have the girl of my dreams. Never thought I would find her and then all of sudden there she was.

I want a new PC, but there is nothing at the moment I can't do with this one.

Lol you cant SLI with dual monitors youve said it yourself. Also, ECC ram will slow you down if your limited to 800mhz period. Better to get a quad core setup of the normal kind to get faster ram. Or be smart and skip the Skulltrail nonsense and get a 790i Ultra SLI for the 9800GX2's, get some bangin fast DDR3, and a nice big 30" LCD so you have something those 9800s can feed. Either that or its wasted.
8gig with XP SP2? rofl
Dream PC with only 9500s cooling? Get 9700s.
And come on that Bigfoot POS is a waste of time. Your paying out the nose for a cool looking network card. Nothing more.
Miker
04-25-2008, 04:33 AM
I would run 2 cards not in SLI and run 2x monitors. My dream is dual monitors, that are not that big, just lots of pix.
I voted it a one for three reasons I could see on a glance:
No Mushkin ram.
No ZeroTherm coolers.
No SSD for OS/Progs.

You could buy that PC if you get $100 a day for a year which makes way more than $8000. I mean hundred days is enough. You could go around the streets begging people for a dollar. Theres billions of people in the world. I bet not all billions could donate but atleast thousands could.
Oh.. Yeah and what kind of software or games will support 8cores... Too much.. HAHA>

I wonder how much the boot time will be on that computer... Must be light speed. JK about that but maybe 3 seconds?... Crysis will run very good since few cores concentrate on crysis and others will work on other processes. MORE FRAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!

No ZeroTherm coolers.
No SSD for OS/Progs.Your opinion, but i do agree on the SSD. Dream computers have SSDs not HDs.
Dont forgot Gigabyte I-Ram as well :P

For a "dream" PC, you didn't really go balls out.

You can run dual monitors with just one video card as long as it has two DVI connectors...

Dual GX2s running a single monitor for games and another for a second monitor is even better.

For photoshop, no SLI, if I want to play Crysis on uber high run SLI.

My dream PC would be a million square foot office filled with Cray XT5's filling it and and have a 5000 square foot led type screen and a go cart track to get around. Now that is a dream system!!!

with Cray XT5's filling it
What do those go for nowadays anyhow?
Sadasius
04-25-2008, 08:49 PM
Starting price is $500,000 for a single cabinet. It easily climbs up much higher when you add the performance options..... Basically my dream PC would probably cost me anywhere from 10-30 Billion dollars or more.
srpeters18
04-25-2008, 08:52 PM
Not bad:
Each Cray XT5 blade includes four compute nodes for high scalability
in a small footprint – up to 300 Gigafl ops per blade or over seven
Terafl ops per cabinet. Each compute node is composed of two AMD
Opteron™ processors (dual or quad core)
And this:
64-bit AMD Opteron series 2000 processors; up to 192 per cabinet

Yeah, but me coming up with $500,000-$1M somewhere is a far shot better than you finding $10-30B, so I'll be so far ahead by the time you come up with that much money...
Here's a head start:

Actually I will be able to afford about 30 cabinets in the event my father dies. Rich family but he does not like to share except in the event of his death in which I will be awarded 20 million as well as my other 2 brothers getting 20 million as well and the rest stays with my mom to do as she pleases. So all I have to do is sit pretty and stay healthy....

A room of old SGI Racks would be nice, with like 5000 500MB HDs, 1600 total 100mhz CPUs.

Unfortunately no which is too bad because it is the best noise to performance ratio that I have found. Good thing for me that I was going with a red and black theme so I can finally use these things.
PP Mguire
04-25-2008, 11:38 PM
Well with the color of the Noctua fans i can paint over that. On the shiny stuff the spray paint chips off easily. WIth the case ill have a black and pink theme. I found where i can get some pink coolant (Least it looks pink).
Sadasius
04-25-2008, 11:43 PM
Yeah it would be hard to paint the silver finish without flaking too much. It's too bad they don't have a mixture of colors.....BUT.....If your handy you can always swap out the LED's for pink one's with a soldering iron. Then it will match perfectly.
PP Mguire
04-26-2008, 12:53 AM
Yea well if i can paint them black and have pink LEDs (Which i can get btw) then it kinda defeats the purpose. Actualy, i was going to paint the Noctuas a mixture of black and pink. And then mod the case itself with pink LEDs in it.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=7749972&WishListTitle=pc (https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=7749972&WishListTitle=pc)Maybe the thread should say the eccentric's impractical dream PC. It looks like many of the parts are just the most expensive you could find, throwing practicality right out the window. More expensive does not necessarily = better. If I had dreams like that I'd wake up in a panic checking my bank account to see if there was anything left in it.
