Idk if ill keep going. If i can find a steady 5 or 12v source on the router board (So i dont cut the power cable) ill put a fan on the chip and OC it more. I just started messing with this thing tonight. Got it apart (While it was on) and BOY that Broadcom chip gets hot as hell! I put a ram heatsink from a 5600ultra (Big long one) on it and its keeping it cool now.

So far, 16mhz makes a huge difference. Seems load times for my wee router are less and i think if i went to speed test id find my internet speed might be faster.....maybe. Idk how that works.

It may or may not help your speed on the net. Problem is that your internet is probably maxed at what, 6~8 MB/s? The router will run at least 100, maybe 1000, depending on your model. Worth a shot though, maybe it'll route packets a hair faster which could help, I guess.

I have 768k point to point wireless broadband. Sometimes i get between 424-568 depending on time of day. But thats only becasue my own family is on it hoggin my stuff. With my spiffy new admin center for my Linksys i can manage bandwidth usage to all me...i mean um evenly throughout the house.....*cough*

Man I could've used something like that while I was deployed. The all the network gear was in my room and we were on satellite, it was on my roof. The guy that owned the gear (Turkish contractor) claimed each dish would support 80 people, ha! He put 100 on it. We had 4x24 port switches and 1x8 port. He used D-link routers, one or two switches per router, as DHCP servers. When everybody would get one, some idiot would always get 15 downloads going on limewire or somebody would start trying to play WoW, you get the idea.

Was it satelite (signal going into space) or point to point like i have? I have a dish but my signal goes to a radio tower in the next town over. If it was satelite then OUCH. But yea, idk if they make this gui/firmware update for D-Link routers. Im using DD-WRT firmware revision for my Linksys. Works wonders and is based off of a Linux Gui.

Nope, it was satellite. 1mbit download, 368k upload. Not nearly enough for 100 people. So when people would go crazy on it, I'd just start unplugging them for a few minutes to drop the connection, then I'd plug them back in. Would've been a whole lot easier to just manage bandwidth, had I been able to.

Satellite connects are great when you can't get a local ISP. I was an PC tech a few years back (2000) when the Navy was just putting satellite connections on ships to get to the internet. We had a 3 meg connection supporting 600-800 pcs. It would get really slow at shift change and meal times. The average ping to to yahoo was around 3 seconds (3000 ms). This was going through only one router (we had 10 or so ATM switches) that I had control of. I was able to adjust the bandwidth allocation, but I always had someone looking over my shoulder when I would adjust it.

Mugire...What router are you using? I have two Linksys WRT54G. I have to run two because I have too many neighbors running wireless (11 are broadcasting their SSID) and I have problems connecting our laptops to wireless in different parts of the house.

WRT54G v4. Your standard one. Change the name of your router and SSID and you shouldnt have a problem, also encrypt it. Dosent need to be fancy. There is a guy around me that can hack (Like, weve cought him ghosting my dads wireless signal before i went wired in the house) and when i changed the password to my router so no sniffer can get passed it and went 64 wep he stopped messing with it. Im sure he can get back into it just thats normaly a sign of i know your there dont get on my internets when you encrypt.
