Read some How-Tos on Overclocking, if you don't do it right you will blow up your whole PC, there is no "right" specs, it is just using your skill to find the right settings.3

I agree. You need to read some articles about OCing. When you are new, I would recommend taking baby steps. This is just change one configuration only one step at a time. I would also recommend you taking written notes on what you changed. I hope this helps.

Both the XFX 680i LT & Asus P5N-E do not support the Q9300 which is mostly likely where your problem lies.

Yea, the 680i doesn't support 45nm quad core processors. I would either take back your CPU and get a Q6700, or get a EVGA 750i FTW motherboard.

Dude...use the spell check or something. Spell check is our friend and not our enemy.
So have you checked in with XFX to see if it is compatible?

It might run, but not be 100% supported.

the xfx 680i does support the q9300
It doesn't, why else do you think its unstable?

the 680i lt does support the q9300 along with many other quads, and dual core cpu's
take a look at the xfx link
http://www.xfxforce.com/web/product/listConfigurations.jspa?series=XFX+nForce+680i&seriesId=989302&productId=989544#MB-N680-ILT9
if the 680i lt doesn't support the q9300 it wouldn't be able to support quad extremes as they have 45nm process

The 680i LT does not support the 45nm Yorkfield quadcore chips, which includes the Q9300, however it does support the 45nm Wolfdale dualcore chips.
And BTW, ever heard of the QX6700? The "X" means its an extreme CPU which makes it an extreme edition 65nm quadcore chip, which might I say, is supported on the 680i LT.

Actually I don't think the 680i supports any quad cores at all if my memory serves me correctly. Then again I am an old fart with fading ram...lol. But seriously I thought that was a dual core only board with no quad support.

Looks like I was wrong on a few fronts after reading up on this issue. It does support quads but has some trouble. There is a general support and I guess it does not play well with 45nm quads. It's one of those of the fence issues as manufacturers say it is supported even on the boxes but in reality it is not fully supported. Kind of an interesting subject.

So posting a CPUz screenshot makes me wrong? Hardly as the only thing I said is they aren't supported which is correct. I never said it wouldn't work.
BTW I find that screenshot hardly believable since there are two different backgrounds in the picture which to me says that you cut and pasted your attachment from two separate screenshots. Also the left window is smaller than the right window.

Just because it boots and posts doesn't mean it's 100% compatible, which is what our members are trying to tell you. As they have stated you probably wouldn't be having the issues you're having if it was.
The vast majority of posts in other forums where people are using both 45nm quads and dual cores with the 680i show them to be having similar issues to what you are having. Apparently the 680i was never licensed to Intel for 45nm support even though some (Wolfdales) will run but still have major overclocking issues.

well my comps now successful overclocked at 3.1ghz instead of the standard 2.5 iam not having problems as such what people are saying my system working fine any of the little problems i had are now sorted everythings working fine and has been for the past couple of days, i would push further but i not reli bothered at the moment, especially with air cooling i will wait until i have watercooling.
compatiblitle is not the issue since that not what my oringal thread was about as ive said my system is working fine now and i also looked at different site that comfirm that my q9300 is compatible with my xfx 680i lt sli mobo,
