Can the HD 3870 work in a tri crossfire? I have googled my butt off and cannot find an answer to this question. I am just wondering if you can use 3 HD3870's in crossfire. I cannot use the 3870X2 unless I watercool it so it can fit so I am looking at 3 single slotted HD 3870's if it can work in a tri crossfire. If not I will try to find another high end solution.
***EDIT*** Never mind. Found out that I can....

You can run up to four cards in CrossfireX. ;-)
Imagine being able to fold with three or four cards. :jawdrop:

Yeah that's what I was thinking about as well. Not to mention that XFX is taking their sweet damn time with me about the 9800GX2 that I am thinking to hell with them and getting this instead.
***EDIT*** Found a nice one slot solution with a great package. I just may place that order by the end of today if I don't hear back from XFX. Been waiting too damn long for a response.

What exactly is XFX taking their time with? We all know multi card solutions really isnt the answer.

I have no idea. I have been on their butts like white on rice and for the first month they kept saying "a couple weeks" because they said they did not have any in stock (but other people seemed to get them). So then last week I had asked to get the rest of the deal such as a price and perhaps payment to get that out of the way and when they have a card to just send it to me. Well a guy on the XFX website said they would forward it to Mark and Shannon and I have heard nothing since. Pretty much left in the dark. I give them by the end of today and after that screw them. I had enough and don't want to play the RMA game anymore. I found out the hard way that lifetime warranty is not everything it is cracked up to be. You can end up paying through the nose with shipping and having lot's of downtime. My 7950GT cost me a small fortune and when I look back if I would have just cut my losses and went and got another card or just did the upgrade I could have saved myself money and time.
On the crossfire side I just may do this right and get 2 HD3870X2's and water cool them. Will cost a bundle more and I was trying to avoid having to spend that much money but I have been pushed into a corner and this seems like the alternative I can go with. Was looking at the single slot 3870's but the cards are cheaply made and have heat issues and cost way too much for a single 3870. So I might as well bite the bullet and go with dual 3870X2's watercooled instead. At least I know I won't have heat issues and I will be able to game for a long time to come. Plus they will fit if I watercool them. The SB waterblock was going to prevent me using dual slot cooling solutions. The 9800GX2 would have fit in the middle slot and that was about it and even then I am still not sure. At least I know watercooled 3870X2's fit with watercooling because others with my setup have done the same and are getting awesome performance.

Why not just wait a month or two when the R700 and GT200 are out?

I was thinking about that but then again I have seen where ATI has delayed newer items and who knows it may be another 6 months before they release the newer cards and heck they may be all hype ta boot. Besides I would like to get this build done ASAP. Getting the itch to use the damn thing...lol. Still waiting for the painting to be done on the case and I am still waiting on the NB block from EK. The rest is pretty much done well with the exception of the video segment of this build. Dead last will be the monitor. Guess I am just getting impatient a little too. Hard to have this hardware around you and not able to use it you know...

Just get 3 of these I have one and its only clocked 25mhz slower on the core than the atomic. 800mhz 2300m Toxic vs the atomic at 825c 2300m, And the toxic OC's very well I have mine running 24/7 at 855c 2600m. And they run very cool Mine idles about 38c - 40c.

Nope that same deal still did not go through. Heck did not even get a price or offer. We had an agreement to do the trade and they kept telling me to wait till they got one in. They kept saying.."In a couple weeks". Well I would wait a couple weeks and then pipe again just to remind them I am still alive an waiting just to receive a couple weeks again. Just plain sick of the whole thing. So no, never even got to hold one even. I have had problems since September of last year with XFX. They lost a customer for life. I won't even bother to RMA this peice of junk I bought off them that never worked right after 3 RMA's. May do a video with a chainsaw going through it or something funny like that though to expend my frustration with XFX.

Lol wow. Seems youve had um...your fair problems with them. Ive never had a problem with those guys but it seems their 7950AGP continues their BS from the 6000 series era which im sure much of us that have been in computers a while remembers. Im glad i didnt have my best friend get one, my rep woulda been on the line here. Well hopefully you enjoy your ATI cards. I dont see why you had to leave the big green though.

Oh it doesn't mean that I won't buy Nvidia again. Just wont buy an XFX product again. It's like I said I found out the hard way that lifetime or double lifetime warranty don't mean jack. Heck I would not give this card to an enemy to live with that kind of burden. Maybe I will just buy EVGA or something when I do. Besides I am sure I will enjoy some WORKING ATI cards...lol

Yeah when it is downclocked by 200mhz for crying out loud. Was the only way to save it from self destruction. The damn card is begging me to put it out of its misery. So I am just milking what I can out of it. Besides don't need much video power when being just a server which is what this thing is going to be soon and nothing else. Just hope that piece of crap don't burn my house down...

Still say 3 of these would be a great setup I have one and it kicks but, I'd like to run 3 that would be sweet. The toxic runs cooler than the other 3870's with its fan design. and plays games great.

How is the fan noise? I may actually consider this like I originally planned at the beginning of this thread. Watercooling 2 3870X2's will cost me much more then running 3 3870's stock cooling that is for sure. It will cost me around $900 for the 3 cards instead of about $1300 for the other two with watercooling to fit the system. Then again I have to measure the bottom of the mobo to the top of the rad on the bottom slot to see if they will be competing for air which the card will lose against the fans on the rad. Have to wait till my case comes back to measure that. Thanks for the help Dragon_CPU!

fan noise is next to none. very quiet and very cool, with my single card and my phenom 8750 x3 i score 12000+ in mark06. i like the mobo i bought but now wish i had went with some of the crossfire boards i looked at for my phenom, so i could crossfire 2 or 3 of these. i have my setup in an antec 900 with the 200mm top fAn, 4x120mm ans cpu cooler, ps 120mm, all running on low and the only fan i hear at all is the fan mounted on the side that i have no speed control over. the rest is pretty silent and the 3870 runs 38-40c idle and that oc'ed.
