i recently purchased the card as part of a home project to build a budget gaming computer my part number is PV-T88P-YHD4

now when im playing halo 1, no problems, probally due to it being an olllld game.

however, Call Of Duty 4. i get about 30 mins of play, then a complete system crash, no CRTL ALT DEL, anything, the screen just locks up and little black pixels OR horizontal coloured lines cover the screen. if i continue to sit in the crash i get a flash of a blue screen and the system resets itself. (definatly not enough time to read the error off the blue screen)

if i turn my computer straight back on and get playing again, i might only get 10 mins of play, pointing me towards a overheating problem, however i may be an ICT technician, but i know NOTHING about video cards.

i know there will be a couple of questions asked instantly, so..

whilst wrtiting this thread GPU -Z tells me..
GPU : 40.8C
PCB : 31.3C
FAN : 30%
(cant get results whislt playing COD4, i dont think its possible to run windowed mode)

My BUDGET Rig :P

E4600 Processor
GA-P35-DS3 Motherboard
2 X 1GB Corsair 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 XMS2 (Dual Channel) RAM
Corsair TX 650 W PSU
Antec 900 (with a side fan fitted) Case.

The XFX support page WILL NOT let me register my product OR start a support ticket, i keep getting their screen saying "not available, sent to administrator"

ANY help would be lovely, its so annoying my rig isnt working like it should.

To get Call Of Duty 4 to run in window mode

open the console and type ( r_fullscreen 0 ) then type ( snd_restart )

use a lower resolution in game to get a smaller window then what your monitor supports

hope that helps

Right Click My Computer and select Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and select Settings under Startup and Recovery. Uncheck the Automatically Restart box under System Failure. This will allow you to read the blue screen when it happens. What is the message it gives? Have you done any memory scans like memtest86(memtest.org) or tried the card in another system to see if you get the same results? Issues like this will be able to be replicated in another system if the card is at fault.

I just tried to make a support ticket right now and didn't have a problem. Perhaps you are typing in the serial wrong. Try making a ticket without a product attached to it and then PM me the ticket number.

OK, UPDATE.

i talked to some co-workers today, they recommended turning AA off. now ive done that, no crashes so far.

many people are recommending underclocking the card OR uncapping the fan. would either of these work, and would it affect my warranty?

Thanks again.

temp using the nvidia monitor was 59C at crash, with 2X AA on...
and fan speed set to 70% using ntune

that seems ok temp wise... whats going on!!??

It is odd that AA would cause an issue like that. We have run that card at 2560x1600 with 4X AA in COD4 and not had any problems here in the lab. Can you try the card in another system to see if you can replicate the issue? AA does cause the memory usage to go up quite a bit. Download memtest86 from http://www.memtest.org (http://www.memtest.org/). Burn it to a CD. Run memtest through 2 or more passes, overnight if you can. Any errors will show up in red with the faulting memory address.

appears i seem to of found the solution, i have UNDERclocked the card using N-Tune (GPU - 630Mhz RAM - 925Mhz) and i am now running at 4x AA for as long as i want no problems, shame i had to underclock the STOCK overclocked card, but im happy its working, however, can you tell me how to save the profile for the card and make it run whenever i boot up, otherwise i have to manually adjust each time.. N-Tune wont load the profiles you see, i get an error...

Thankyou Muchly.

Uninstall NTune and install nForce System Tools from http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_system_tools_6.01.html (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_system_tools_6.01.html). NTune was replaced by nForce System Tools. This will allow you to assign a profile at Windows start easily. Rivatuner will also allow you to apply at Windows start. It would seem that perhaps it is just enough with the 2X AA to push your card over the edge at its default clocks. You may want to exchange the card for another unless you are okay running at the lower clocks. Since you are in Europe this will probably be through your retailer.

The system tools doesn't appear to have the Under/Over clocking ability or fan control, could someone point me to where about it is

xfx's RMA Dept. is top notch and ready to toubleshoot and exchange for new products. I had a similar problem with an 8800 GTX way back in the way back. I think that one of the vendors that sells XFX memory modules is sketchy.....lol XFX is excellent on the support end of things and they will contact you if you initiate contact with them through xfxforce.com, if one of their techs catches this post, or if you post a comment on newegg in which case the XFX Techs will initiate contact.

Active Tech Support! I love this company. G. Skill does the little active tech support thingy too. They are both top notch in my book. I just wish that I could get some case badges!
