It's not really surprising. And yes consoles will always be the more popular option, and it is popular because it is a hell of a lot more bang for the buck. I respect them for that if anything.

Those words ring true for the most part, though realize that much of 64 bit's slow evolution has to do with Vista being basically an on the fly OS that is looking more and more to have been intended to be a mere stepping stone OS to take us from 32 bit to 64 bit. I feel MS was just testing the 64 bit waters with it. Once they got serious about patching Vista many games ran in 64 bit fine too, even better than XP.
It's possible that once Windows 7 is released, which will be a true dedicated 64 bit OS, we will see a dramatic rise in both 64 bit driver support and PC game developement. The PC gaming industry desperately needs a kick in the pants, and Windows 7 just could be it. From what I've heard MS have vowed to not repeat the same mistakes they made with Vista.
Console gaming is thriving, but even console games are getting complex enough to need patching, and some don't get the patches they need. As many wealthy familes as there are that own console systems, I tend to think convenience is just as much a reason if not more so than price for them not choosing the PC platform for gaming.
Bottom line, there needs to be a dedicated 64 bit OS that works well in both business and home applications for 64 bit driver support to thrive. So far we've not really seen such an OS. If sales figures for Windows 7 are healthy upon it's release and it's not plagued with bugs that Vista had, I'd say it's almost a sure bet that 64 bit driver support will no longer be a problem.

I think its going to take more than just Alienware saying that 32bit is dead for people to realize it.
Also, Windows Vienna FTW.
And yet, Alienware as a company, still is among the bottom feeding overchargers of the computer market, right along with Voodoo and ... uh............
Cosair, OCZ and BFG.
