I hate how the tech companies used the "Fatality" brand like its some sort of way to make their stuff "GODLY OMGZ!!!!!", reason I have no respect for alot of those companies.

Nice, finally a good audio solution using a PCIe port! might have to take a look at this. Totally agree on the use of the Fatality name aswell, abused marketing scheme.

Well actualy alot of Fatal1ty products are suepd up versions of the original products. For isntace the differnce between the Zalman VF900 and Zalman Fatal1ty is the fan on the Fatal1ty goes faster so it cools better. As for Creative well they kinda are his original sponsor so obviously they will put his name on their better products. He actualy does get with the teams that design the products that have his name on it and puts in alot of input.

I kinda see where you are coming from but understand the logic behind it. In the gaming world there are not a lot of well known superstars. No Michael Jordans, Tiger Woods ect. So companies go with the one gamer that has made his name well known (or perhaps just known is a better term). I love gaming and am glad to see at least one person has gotten popularity of out it and can only hope to see more names rise up in the near future.

I haven't bought a sound card in years. The last one I bought was a Live 5.1 way back when. On board sound is good enough for me.

There are actualy alot of well known gamers. You just dont hear about them like anybody else becasue gaming isnt considerd a "profession". Its more of a pass time.

I'm never buying anything Creative any more. I've learned my lesson with the X-Fi.

Bingo, after the X-Fi Vista bull, I will never buy a Creative product either.

I would never buy a sound card period. Just a waste of cash unless your processor has a seriously hard time keeping up with games, then the load taking off will barely do anything. And to anyone saying you can get better sound out of a sound card, i havent heard better sound off of one yet, so when you can show me this ill consider buying.

yeah, but a CPU is far different situation than a sound card. Onboard sound has gotten quite good compared to the past.

Its true, they take the sound processing off of your CPU. Yes it is a waste of cash for something that doesnt sound better.

I said rofl becasue it does sound better. You have to have the equipment on the outside to hear the differnce. If you have a 2.1 or 5.1 system that cant handle the frequencies produced then you wont hear a difference at all. Thats like going from a standard PCI card to an X-Fi Elite Pro but yet having 2" stereo desktop speakers. The difference is there. Also, by using a SB Live! 24bit ive noticed an improved sound quality and reduced cpu usage. Does the job.

When it comes to games who uses EAX for special effects in games like Hitman and other games, having a soundcard makes a HUGE difference compared to only using the soundchips on the motherboard.

I currently have an Audigy2 ZS soundcard since several years ago and it lowers cpu usage and produces good sound!

The new X-Fi soundcards from Creative sucks in the matter that there is no sound drivers for them if one decides to use Linux. Creative should have done better in this regard. I will never buy an X-Fi until there are working Linux drivers.

My friend has some 100$ sound card with 7.1 surround sound and ive tried his system on my pc and it sounds identical.

Also back in the day i had a sound card when they were brand new. Only difference i noticed is that i got a small fraction of better performance.

They dont have drivers for XP nor vista either :p

And by the way if you use some little gamers headset or whatever you wont usualy see the difference in sound quality.
I did my work and benched a few games with and without a sound card and nowadays it does make a difference...
Minimal but its there.
Unlike the KillerNIC a add on sound card does make a difference.
Lets leave gimmick to Big foot networks :p
BUT if you do buy a gamers motherboard like a few of the asus ROG boards.
They do come with add on sound cards which are actually VERY good for what they are.
Of course if you are not an audio kind of guy and that 2 or 3 fps at best arent your thing then a 200 bucks sound card is really not for you...

Wrong! According to Creative they have drivers for the new sound cards, both for XP and for Vista.

Look at this (http://se.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=209&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+XP&region=3&Product_Name=X-Fi+Fatal1ty&Product_ID=14000&modelnumber=&driverlang=1033&OS=10&select=0&x=24&y=14).

It was more of a joke dude.

As for me, my onboard is Realtek 7.1 and im using a Creative Live! 24bit 7.1. There is a big difference in quality. Going from that to my friends X-Fi Fatal1ty (when setup right and coupled with audiophile sound system) there is a HUGE difference in quality. Im all about quality. I dont exaclty use a sound card for the performance increase moreso the quality. Being in the sound business i can tell big differences in sound compared to somebody with no experience for what they are listening too.

Nice looking board... hopefully there's some substance to the card and they're just not slapping the "Fatal1ty" name on it to make some bucks :?
