Hey guys, I have a friend that wants to purchase a program that she can use to assemble and play her pictures with music and play on a dvd player. She has tried to use Windows movie maker but is unable to burn her movie to disc using a dvd cd. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanx.

I have been using Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus for the past 4-5 months and can’t complain. I have had no issues with it on my current rig (see sig). On my older P4 XP machine, I ran Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5. Would not work with Vista and when I had it on my current rig while dual booting with XP, it still would not work correctly. Never tried the newer version though.
One thing I would suggest your friend do is down load the demos and try them for a week or two. Sony Vegas, Roxio, Ulead, etc. they all allow a test period of a few weeks to a month on their basic software. One caveat, they may not allow her to burn DVD’s. I think Vegas requires you to run the DVD authoring software (demo) as well.
Another thing, have her go to Newegg and Amazon and put in “video editing software” and read some of the reviews. If she has never done anything like this before, the Roxio software is a good start but might be a little limiting for someone who has a bit of experience. Vegas has, depending on the level of experience, a learning curve. I am using UVS11 Plus until I find something else that is stable with Vista 64 not because it is an awesome piece of software. On a scale of 1-10 it would be a 6 BUT it works on my rig right now.
Hope this helps.
Paul
UVS11 does do HD DVD, Blu-Ray and AVCHD along with the regular DVD formats.

I have no idea tyle6 she was really mad as she worked on this movie for hours. She tried burning to a dvd using the wizard with no luck as she gets an error. Than with a full version of nero and it goes through the burning process but the disc ends up blank. She has just decided to buy some software. Even if it did work with Windows movie maker, she wants a transportable disc to play on her friends/families dvd players and with movie maker i think she could only play it on other people computers that have the app but i may be wrong about that.

She should have absolutly no trouble authoring with windows movie maker. I have used it to publish many a movie to a DVD video disk. most of these movies were photo reels of trips or family functions and were givin out to family members to play on DVD players, not computers. I have yet to have anyone have any playback issues. If nero is messing up the burn I would have to say she is either choosing the wrong options well burning or has a bad optical drive. :frown:

Good too know movie maker can do what she wants. I will go through the help files with her and see what she is possibly doing wrong. I don't think there is a problem with her optical drive as it is a relatively new pc and she can burn other things fine. Thanx guys.
