xfx 8800GT - all DX apps crash/lockup

Hey all, i just got this XFX 8800GT card here, and have had nuthin but problems with it. basicaly it keeps crashing as soon as i start a game. just as the game starts, bam, vid locks (usually black screen), and sometimes sound keeps going. but no response from key/mouse. i found that some games worked but most didnt. traced that down to the fact that NOTHING DIRECT-X runs, but opengl (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=2711246#) things ok. i have tried multiple different drivers, reloaded os, nuthin works. i had a 7800gt, and it ran fine, no probs. just this new 8800gt. any thoughts? or is it just a bad card?

What are the rest of the specs on your system? If you have any other add in cards (video capture, sound..ect) try removing them and see if that helps at all as it could be a conflict.

my sys is a dell e521, amd 5400+ x2. 4 gig ram. i have both a xfx 7800gt and a 6800xt that both run just fine in this system. only this new 8800 has problem. but,yes i did remove other cards, and still the same. today i also tested the 8800 in another system alltogether, and it still has same problem. i think its safe to say i got a bad one.
