I read that 60deg is the highest this CPU should be at, and thats what it was at last night before I shut down. I have a side panel fan, the glacier cpu cooler, a case fan in the back and one in the front. I need to get my temps lower to overclock higher, did I not put enough thermal paste on?

Thats probably about as high as you should go, just to be safe. Currently my E6550 is running at 100% load on both cores and my temps are 50-52ºC. Try changing the voltage.. odds are you left it on Auto.

As for max temps.. the "Thermal Specification" on your chip is only 60º.. so it should start to throttle back when it gets to that temp.. On your CPU i would recommend keeping it at or below 50.

I was always able to keep it in the high 40 to low 50 degree range at full load overclocked at 3.4 GHz, but I had six case fans as well as a 200 mm side fan and was using an Enzotech cooler with a 90CFM Delta fan.

Also how cool is the room that you're running your rig in? Ambient temperature makes a huge difference. Also, how far are you trying to push the chip?

I was kinda hoping for a 3.2 all the time use. I think what I'm going to do tomorrow when I get home from school is reseat the CPU and make sure the thermal compound was on there good.

Has your temps always been like that?

When you reseat the CPU HSF make sure you don't apply too much TIM.

:icon_tiphat: It better or you can hang up your PC and be forced to buy a Mac and rainbow clothing.

I'm glad it worked so I don't have to do that! I'm running at 2.8 right now 41c idle.
