Hi everyone,

I am a noob when it comes to overclocking. I have a XFX 8800 GTS 512 MB Alfa Dog Ed card (650 MhZ).

I was wondering how does one overclock the speeds (i.e. what program use and or settings to change) on that and how to do it safely?

Other than that I was thinking about getting another card and running in SLI (I have an XFX 680i LT SLI MOBO).

How do you set SLI up, just slot it in and then what? Change something in the BIOS? How can you check in windows to see if your graphics performance has actually changed from before and after the new vid card in SLI?

I run some games now and sometimes is is laggy. If i get the SLI going, how do I know I am getting the full benefits?

Thanks

OCing in SLI is basically impossible.

Setting up SLI is quite simple. All you need is another 8800 GTS 512 MB (it doesn't matter which brand it is), and a SLI bridge. Installing it is just plug n' play:

1)Turn off you computer,
2) Install your second 8800 GTS 512 MB (G92),
3) Install the SLI bridge connector,
4) and turn on your computer.
Note: Its been a little while since I ran SLI so I'm not sure if it recommended to uninstall the display drivers first but I would do so anyhow.

Unless the way SLI is setup in the newest display drivers, it should be automatically enabled. You can check to see if its enabled in the nVidia control panel.

One way to see if SLI is working correctly is by running a couple benchmarks like 3dmark06, or the built-in benchmarking system in the games F.E.A.R. and Company of Heroes.

OCing in SLI is basically impossible.
That is hardly true as I had no problems overclocking 2x7900GS cards in SLI. BTW what you said is really helpful...

Thanks for the info, but how do you actually do the over clock?

Thanks

Try "ATI Tool" or "RivaTuner" to overclock your video cards.

Use the links he gave you, and increase them by a couple of increments of 10-20MHz. and watch the temps as they go by. Test each time using a game that is GPU intensive, like CS:S, crysis, bioshock, etc... (you get the point)

enjoy OC'ing.

I will try.

Thank you very much
