Toms Hardware recently got a demonstration of the Nehalem.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-nehalem-overclock,5573.html
Intel did not release the speed of the processor but said.
The processor was insanely overclocked and aircooled, according to Intel’s Francois Piednoel.
They demonstrated a start up time on Sony Vegas of 2 seconds.

Be my guest and ask Intel for us. :icon_tiphat:

I have to say I believe them. Intel has been doing very well lately and the new procs seem like they are going to be very very good.

So much for no overclocking though

I think that they will either get rid of OCing on lower end processors or severely restrict it so they can make more money. The high end chips will OC to oblivion and back.

No, we heard this the last time and people always find a way to OC. Always.

Not if Intel mods the chips. Its like Nvidia cutting the extra streams in GPU's.

Two things bother me about this story, its an 'insane' overclock as claimed by Intel themselves....and its Toms Hardware. Not two of the most believable sources at face value.

I dont know if anyone saw this but its really bad for AMD.
I know that the war for the better processor goes back and forth but when has AMD or Intel been 2 generations behind? Thats what it looks like with Nehalem. AMD wont be able to release their new architecture (most likely called K12) until 2009. Nehalem comes out at the end of this year, making AMD two generations behind. :ahhhhh:Not looking good for AMD.

It didnt start out looking good for them but they still made a name for themselves with the Athlon. I personaly think they need to ditch ATI and all will be well again.

They get done paying for them this year so they will have more money to throw around. Maybe they could sell them and have a bunch of money to make a new core. :-D

The "reports" / rumor put AMD's Shanghai as comparable to Penryn. Goliath, you are right in that it won't matter since Shanghai will be competing with not just Nehalem, but a die-chrunk Nehalem (Westmere) by that time.
Ironically ATI's prospects are looking rather good right now though, even if I wouldn't want a penny of AMD stock. That's a discussion for another thread though. :)

Im waiting till they come out with the 4*** series to judge. If they do it right it will be a good performance/price ratio, possibly selling huge. That would make my earlier prediction of ATI bailing out AMD true.
