So, a little explanation on the above post.

I just got a replacement mobo for my XFX 680i that bit the dust. This was the 2nd time that I had to RMA a 680i mobo with XFX, the first time being last Christmas. It took over a month then, but this time it was closer to three weeks.

Being an Asus/Abit motherboard fanboy, I was hesitant to explore the alternatives, but I figured, what the hey, let's give it a shot. XFX has a double lifetime and overclocker friendly warranty on their video cards, so I thought let's see how they do with mobos (even though the mobos have only a two year warranty and not a lifetime warranty as some others).

The 680i didn't work out all that well for me. It does well for some, but not for others. I overclock a bit, but not to the point where I think it's outrageous. The mobos are designed by nVidia and apparently made by Foxconn, or so I believe. But they have the XFX name on them. And when the mobos went bad, XFX stood by their product.

I appreciate that. I pay real money just like anybody else. Two hundred bucks (after rebate) for a mobo ain't chicken scratch and when it breaks I am appreciative when they fix it, replace it, or make it right.

In my most recent case, they made it right by replacing the 680i with a 780i. Now I'm not saying that will be the case for everyone with a defective 680i mobo from XFX, but I have seen time and time again on this forum where an older model (usually video cards) is replaced with something newer of like value. Hell, I have an XFX 7900GTX over two years old that I wish would break but it's running as strong as ever. I'm going to replace that one myself and let it sit on the shelf and collect dust for a while.

But getting back to the mobo and XFX's support, the XFX 680i mobos are quickly disappearing. They are getting harder and harder to find every day. I see plenty of nVidia reference design 680i's by EVGA and BFG, but hardly any by XFX. Maybe they know something that the others don't. I'm betting they do.

My experience with XFX and XFX support is that they care about the quality of their product and their service. I would not hesitate to buy another XFX motherboard. As a matter of fact, when the Intel price cuts come through, I'll be looking for a new CPU. And my secondary rig will get my trusty E6700 along with a new mobo. Guess who's at the top of the list? I don't get paid by XFX or get free stuff and I don't even have a magic discount card, but I do get great service. And I've seen others from these forums who have as well. I think that we're very fortunate to have the XFX support guys hanging out here.

Thanks again guys.

Yeah XFX rocks. I have had other companies wanting us to dump XFX and put them in XFX spots for contest and support and I said no way. Their support is good and you just don't dump a good relationship becuase someone waves green in you face.

They have great support and stand behind their products. I'm looking at an XFX Mobo for my rig now but struggling between need/want.

I am struggling too, but I am weak.

And the nForce is strong.

The 780 boards seem to be the best motherboard solutions for those that want a decent overclocking board and SLi in a all in one package.

I'm glad you've had good luck with them and that's comforting to hear. I currently have a ticket with them about my XFX nVidia 680I LT also. It's been giving me nothing but problems but it's good to hear they'll make sure it gets taken care of.:icon_tiphat:

Yes, xfx USA support is awesome and incredible, i wait until in Europe we can say something else. I know xfx from my last college year that i do in UCA, when i came back to spain i donīt hesitate when upgrade my old pc and bought xfx graphic cards, i think that are fantastic, but i have a problem with my last card and european support team is.... (my father always says, that when you canīt speak well from someone, is better donīt say nothing).

I think that in USA the service of xfx support is excellent (for my own experience), but that is all. If i lives in USA or was my support, i only trust in xfx, but in Europe i canīt say the same.

Thanks to the staff os this forums, that answer questions and helps (when is possible) to the owner of cards that donīt live in USA.

I'd like to add my two cents regarding my own experience with XFX support group: these are all helpful guys who take great pains to follow up to assure you have a satisfactory solution to a given problem - to the extent of calling me at home when an address number appeared incorrect. They don't seem to get exasperated with a bunch of questions and are evenhanded when responding. They are easy to reach by phone and I hope that any of you that have occasion to contact these people treat them with the proper respect. The deserve that and a lot more.

Thanks for all your help guys over the past month or so - the system is up and running beautifully.

Best Regards,
Fidler

You're right, I'll be sending back my third 680i board. I was told there were no upgrades. Maybe if they finally run out and don't have anything else to send I'll get something better?

Believe me, the support guys have been very helpful, polite, and fast in sending me a replacement. I love 'em, I'm just not happy with their product.

That would be my guess. Maybe a 780i. That would be nice.

Just remember that the 680i was an nVidia reference designed motherboard, not XFX. Hopefully nVidia learned a thing or two in their fledgling attempt.

I've been very happy with my 780i mobo. It's what the 680i should've been all along.

I've also been very happy with my XFX video cards. The XFX warranty is second to none. No one else in the industry has a modder friendly double lifetime warranty. It's really amazing when you think about it.

Oh man! Glad to hear XFX's support is great! I've noticed it on the forums, but now a real life story!

I too, was a little Abit and Asus fanboi, and I was afraid of going away. Till I hit up NewEgg, and saw that my XFX MG-63Mi-7109 was kinda cheap, and it had a black PCB. Found it on Amazon, got it, and now it's waiting for some action :)

True and I blame Nvidia and Foxconn as well. I'm not sure if it is the design or the implementation that is at fault but XFX markets it and needs to go a step farther than they have, then bill back on Foxconn oe Nvidia.

Looks like there may be issues with the 780 also.

There are issues with every motherboard ever built. That's why they ALL have BIOS revisions, for instance. At least XFX DOES stand by their product and if you get a bad one, they'll replace it. I've got a 680i LT and a 780i and haven't had any unresolvable issues with either. All errors have been my fault.

Yes, XFX has been very good about RMAs but the 680i has a reputation for problems, at least the Foxconn-built versions (XFX, EVGA).

it's been i while since i came back to this forum , but i concur with NULL's saying , it tooked them a little while but at the end , i also received a 780i for my defective XFX 680i , it's stable as a rock since then. no issue whatsoever i tried it in SLI with 2 9800 GTX and a QUAD core and it was really stable.

i'm glad of buying my XFX board last Xmas , i'm also happy to know that this company has a superb service too , I recommended this brand of board to 2 of my friends because of that great service experience and one of them also bought an XFX video card . They have no issue whatsoever with their board.

THanks Again XFX :icon_tiphat:

Is there some secret handshake or password to get an upgrade out of 680 LT hell?

They told me to send it in for repair?! Another $14 up in smoke. Too bad ULTRA doesn't make boards, at least they pay for the shipping!

My guess would be because they had 680i boards, which when released were the same class as the 780i, they were the top boards at the time. The 680i LT however, is a budget board and will never (in my estimation) be replaced with a 780i. Price point on a 780i is 2 to 2.5 times as much because its a full featured board.

I'm fine with that. They need to refund my purchase price then. If not that, then perhaps a different product like a video card?

I don't think they do stuff like that. Even if they did, you'd probably end up with an 8600 GT or something.

No deal on anything but another 680i LT. Meanwhile back at the ranch, the Asus board gets the components straight from the 680 brick. Fires right up. Lesson learned. Anyone want to buy the next board XFX sends me? New in the box, pay your money and take your chances.:ahhhhh:

The techs told me they don't do substitutions. Maybe you guys that got 780s were delusional?

Null
09-22-2008, 08:28 AM
No, not delusional, just lucky I guess. I believe that the MB-N680-ISH9 was discontinued by XFX and that it was easier for them to replace it with a 780i than it was to repair the 680i.

Maybe if I use up all of the remaining LTs they'll have to give me something that works.
