Heres the specs:

MOBO: Asus P5N-D
CPU: Q9450
Mem: OCZ 2x2GB DDR2 800
Graphics: xfx 9800 GX2 1GB
PSU: Ultra X3 1000w
Nothing is overclocked or touched it is all set to manufacturers specs. The only only program extra that is running is Riva Tuner to keep the fan speed up from normal. I thought it might be an overheating problem.

I have already tried: All drivers from 175.16 and up to current beta of 175.80 all with clean installs<yes very annoying and time consuming>.

The problem only happens with 2 games thusfar: Lego Indy and Crysis.
When I go to play them it will start to load and then the fan sounds as if it is going over 120% and then black screen. I waited for an eroor window or something to indicate a problem but never happened. Any thoughts? I am thinking possibly a bad heatsink or something having to do with the XFX card. Any help is appreciated.

I know with the power needs of the 9800GX2 it may be difficult but would you be able to try the card in another system? That is the test you can do. Do you have any other power hungry card you can try in the system like an 8800GTX or Ultra?

Another thing you can try is disabling multi-GPU mode and running the card in multi-monitor mode for those two applications. That will cause the card to not only draw less power, but will help us determine if those applications are having trouble with multi-gpu (SLI) setups.

Make a ticket at http://www.xfxforce.com/web/support/supportCentral.jspa and PM me the ticket number. If you are in the US or Canada I can get an RMA issued for that right away since you have replicated it in two systems.

Hello. I am new to this forum, although I have used it alot trying to solve similair problems. I bought my xfx 7950 gx2 approx a year ago, since then I have had black screens randomly but its worst when running demanding applications. I have been running vista ultimate all that time and initially assumed it was being caused by the well publicised nvidia driver problems. After several revisions of the drivers the problems did not go away therefore I started investigating other possible causes. I have to date virtually rebuilt my pc, uprated psu to thermaltake 700w, replaced mobo for Abit fatality FP-IN9 SLi, replaced ram. I have sent it back to the place I bought it (they sent it back to me saying there was no problem when tested but when asked what testing they had done failed to give me any details) and xfx customer support who have offered rma a week ago but i'm yet to get a call. I have also suffered from random screen corruption even when just browsing the internet, have you experienced any corruption? I'm wondering whether these multi gpu cards have an inherent problem. Thanks for your time. Mark

I do not have corruption of video with my card, but when I do not install the drivers the black screen does not happen.

I did not want to do the rma because I live in brazil and will take a long time until receiving the card again.

I'm thinking that this problem more related to nvidia drivers or chipset intel (problem with sli), but the main question is whether xfx is aware of this problem and will really do my 9800gx2 rma or even anger be evaluated and may not have problems?
