Hope I posted this in the right place.If not mods please move.

Hope all are having a good Friday

so,new XFX 790i build is good but,
XP Pro won't finish installing....

I get FF post, and have looked thru CMOS settings and BIOS.
Most is on "Auto"

Temps,voltage and frequency look fine,maybe a bit low?
All drives recognized.

Only thing I changed was "disable" FDD as I don't own one ,and boot from removable storage device 1st,CD Rom 2nd,then Hard drive.

then...

I get this stop message when installing XP Pro;

Problem is detected, Windows has shut down.
grrr......this is after it has begun installing many drivers

Check you have adequate disc space.
If a driver is identified in the Stop message,disable the driver,or check manufacturer for updates.
Try changing Video adapters.

Check your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates.
Disable BIOS caching or shadowing.

For safe mode;Re-start and press F8 for "Advanced" then "Safe" mode.

Stop message reads;

Technical info;

*** STOP: 0xc0000007E (0xc0000005,0xF748E0BF,0xF78DA208,0xF78D9F08)

*** pci.sys - Address F748E0BF base at F7487000, datestamp 3b7d855c

I just got error with

File cpqarray.sys caused an unexpected error (12800 ) at line 3514 in d;\xpclient\base\boot\setup.c.c

press any key to continue.

Also,I can't get F2 or F6 or F8

Any ideas?

Sorry,
I know you will need more info but I must go to bed.
I'll check back later and post more specs and see what you guys think I should try or need more info on.

Thanks,Stix

Start by updating to the P05 BIOS and then manually set your memory timings? You may want to try loosening up the timings on them a bit to see if they are not stable at the settings that are in the SPD. Add 1 to each setting and 3 to the tRAS. Make sure that your Command Per Clock is set to 2T. File.net says that cpqarray.sys is a Compaq SCSI driver. Are you using a retail disc or an HP/Compaq OEM disc to install from?

Hi XFX Tech,and thanks for the response mate!

Dude,I can't update my BIOS without an installed Operating System.

Basically,the problem I found,is that you MUST boot from a single Windows XP Disc, WITH Service Pack 2 on it.

Apparently,
Any straight Windows disc without SP2 does not recognize PCI-E....or SATA..

What you must do is create a "Slipstreamed" disc containing Windows XP and Service Pack 2.

Intel;

Slipstreamed Windows XP CD Using SP2 (http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm)

more intel;

No Motherboard manufactures make any note of this,

let alone,

the PCIE -Express industry =

This may be just nVidia related

Cheers,Stix:wink:

You can flash using AWDFLASH before Windows. Burn the BIOS BIN file to a CD and then tap Alt+F2 at the first BIOS screen. You can use the program nLite from nliteos.com to slipstream service packs into your existing Windows install and then make a new disc. I don't believe that you need Service Pack 2 to finish the install but you will need it to have access to more than 137GB of hard drive space. If you don't have an SP2 disc I would definitely make one using nLite. Most of the time when Windows won't finish installing it is memory, the disc, the optical drive, or the hard drive. I would start with memory.
