I finally decided what my next car will be, I was thinking a Acura NSX for awhile but decided on a 1998 Ferrari 456 GTA.

1100hp V8. ROFL

430 all that V12 has? Really? My dads little 289 hipo was dyno pushing 463 before he let it sit with a 2 barrell intake with 1.5" pipes that where choking the thing. When im doen with it, he says it will probably be pushing around 615. Of course when im done it DEFF wont be stock anymore hehe.

And thats with 93 octane. It does 1300 hp at 21 psi of boost on race gas. But it does cost more than your Farrari, but for the same price you can get a brand new vette Z06 that GM says has 505 hp but it makes more than that. Kind of like the old trans ams that had about 400 but were rated for 200 something.

Detroit thunder beats Euro purr any day.

ROFL, are you guys really saying a ford or a Chevy is better then a Ferrari? Top speed and HP doesn't matter, you buy a Ferrari to have a Ferrari.

I could care less about Ferarri. Not when i can have something that sounds better, looks better, and goes faster for alot less. And actualy i have never been one to like Ferarris. Ive been into Lambos but not those.

Sounds better then any Mustang, V12 with 4valves/cylinder.

How many Ferrari's are overpriced? ;-)

Seriously, you can't beat American cars for dollar per horsepower.

PP Mguire
06-08-2008, 08:36 AM
That vette if you read has both the passenger seat and back seats as well as AC and everything else. Doing 1100hp. And most likely way cheaper than your Ferarri.

Miker
06-08-2008, 08:39 AM
I can get a 456 for 60-75k. That is a 98-2000.

srpeters18
06-08-2008, 08:44 AM
You can get a GT500 for around $50k. That leaves $10-25k for aftermarket and customization. Not saying I wouldn't love to have a Ferrari, don't get me wrong, but bang for the buck is pretty big in my book too. And have you ever looked at maintenance costs on a Ferrari? Parts aren't generally kept on hand, they're shipped from Italy. Even getting tires changed on it is ridiculous.

PP Mguire
06-08-2008, 08:46 AM
2006 z06 can be had for 65800.

Miker
06-08-2008, 08:59 AM
The 456 is one of the most reliable Ferraris ever. I would get the GTA, so no *Sneeze*$6,000*Cough* clutch for me to burn out. And yes they had custom tires made for it that are *Sneeze*$1,200*Cough* each, and yes air filters are *Sneeze*$210*Cough* each.

*Edit* Did I mention that it has 2 air filters?

Lol wow Miker you must be missing part of your brain. Look at the cost of those parts. Your GTO isn't even that old i don't get why your getting a new car already. For way cheaper you could put some performance parts on that and beat the Ferrari in anything.

Personally i hate the sound of those. Sounds like their running on 2 cyls.

My statement still stands, Detroit thunder over Euro purr.

darkorb
06-08-2008, 06:55 PM
Miker i can see you wanting a Ferrari in youre lifetime, but it is not an everyday car. Replacing those parts will cost you and at youre age it is not smart to buy a ferrari, it will cost you a **** load.

Srpeters, yea american cars have the best price/hp ratio, but when you look at it, a 200HP german car can beat a 300HP american car. It isnt all about the HP.

The Dodge viper has a 8.4l V10 and produces 600HP. Dont get me wrong, the viper is one of my favourite cars, but then look at a BMW m5 5L V10 with 500 HP. Americans needed 3.4L to make 100 more HP?

Americans like their muscle, but the engineering isnt up to par thats why they need those monster sized engines to produce the amount of horsepower.

'Amp!'
06-08-2008, 07:28 PM
Top speed and HP doesn't matter, you buy a Ferrari to have a Ferrari.

Right, not to drive one just to have one. Anyone who owns a Ferrari doesn't drive it all that often because it isn't really meant for driving.

If you're buying it to OWN it then that's cool but if you're buying it drive it all the time then that's silly.

I have a GTO, I just want a Ferrari to put like 250-500 miles a year on. Also the 456 is not a race car, it is a reliable 4 seater like a Porsche Cayenne or something of that nature, it can be a daily driver if you want it to be.

Yeah, like my co-workers GT500. Stock its a 5.4l V8 with 500hp and 504 lbft of torque. With the pipes, pulleys and programmer its at 586 and will smoke that BMW any day of the week. Plus there isn't a sound on earth like the one that blower makes.

Two weeks ago we hit 150mph on the highway in 4th gear. Still had some pedal left and two more gears to go through.

They dyno at more like 440 though stock, and I doubt pipes pulleys and a program will gain 140HP.

And about German cars, they are nice for the first year. My uncle has 2 AMGs, and he blows so much money in upkeep it is not even funny. They are so fancy, so much stuff to break. I would love to have a R32 Rabbit/Golf though.

No, I'm saying you were mistaken. His car has been on the dyno here, and it came out at 586. As recruiters, we go to all the high schools, colleges, and tech schools, among other places, so we meet people. Like instructors at tech schools that when they see you are driving a GT500 ask you if they can put it on the dyno.

Well it is common fact that the new GT500 is slower then it should be, and is around 440RWhp. Even PP would agree on that.

See, I can't hit on a Saleen Mustang, or Rouch, they might not have as much engine as a GT500, or even a GTO for that matter but they are tuned right. The new GT500 is just a regular Mustang GT with some cool paint and a big engine.

And a different suspension, and brakes. And a big blower on the different engine. Saleen and Rousch are kits for a GT. Shelby is far more different than the other two, mechanically at least. I mean, you don't get the body kits that you do with the other kits, but they're not limited run either, anybody that can afford one can own one. Shelby's are quite limited in number.

Miker
06-10-2008, 05:38 AM
GT500s have the same suspension and brakes as a Mustang GT. The others might have smaller engines, but they are better because they are tuned, not just a big engine in a shell that can't handle it.

You have more head room with a bigger engine, but youd never change anything on it so that doesnt matter.

No, it doesn't.

The GT500's suspension is lower than a Mustang GT's, and uses recalibrated front and rear shocks, upgraded front and rear stabilizer bars and revised spring rates. The key to the GT500's three-link architecture, according to Ford, is the Panhard rod that provides precise control over the rear axle. It's centrally located and fastened to the upper front end of the differential, while trailing arms are located near each end of the axle.
